Facing multiple monsters and bosses in every Dragon Quest 3 Remake adventure makes it important to have a good party formation that will protect and fight alongside you. While deciding the party is mostly based on your own taste, there are some classic combinations that you can go for to enhance your gameplay. Party lineups also decide the ability of the group to use various gears. After playing the game with various classes, we have put up here what we feel are the best Dragon Quest 3 HD – 2D Remake party formations.
Party Formations: Classes To Choose From
There are 10 classes/jobs in Dragon Quest 3 Remake, which can be mixed and matched to create a party. Here’s a short overview of all classes besides the Hero that you can go for:
Mage: Can cast various spells, including single and multiple target ones. Can debuff enemies.
Priest: Their main power is to heal the party. They can cast both healing and attack spells.
Sage: Similar to the previous ones, Sages can perform healing spells. They can only cast one spell but it’s often alright as it’s powerful enough to heal the group when in need.
Warrior: They are mainly focused on dealing physical damage in battle and tanking any damage from the monsters or bosses. Warriors also have all kinds of abilities that make them one of the best classes to have in fights.
Merchant: This class isn’t entirely too good at battle, however, they are a good party member if you’re looking forward to becoming rich in the game in no time. They can earn more gold through rewards and access shops in the overworld.
Thief: Just like the merchant, Thieves are a great party member to have if you’re looking to get rich quickly. They have the best skills to detect treasure in the game, and also deal decent damage through their attacks.
Gadabout: They aren’t the best at anything, considering they don’t often listen to our plans and act on their own. However, they do perform certain attacks in combat, and should only be chosen if you’re looking to eventually turn them into a sage.
Monster Wrangler: These are special class members who can quickly learn abilities from the monsters that they fight or come across during the exploration.
Martial Artist: They are good in battle and can also inflict more damage on the enemy compared to a warrior. The Martial Artist can lose health much faster than a warrior though.
Best Party Formations In Dragon Quest 3 Remake
We’ve listed down all the best party formations and what kind of gameplay they’ll lead to. From a group that’s the best in battle to the one that gets filthy rich over time, choose your party according to your liking.
Hero + Warrior + Martial Artist + Mage
This is the best party formation to have if you’re looking to focus on offensive attacks during battle. The Martial Artist will make up for any power the hero lacks, since they have the ability to perform highly critical hits.
Mages can cast some offensive spells too, making them a good fit in this party. While Warriors aren’t that heavy on offensive attacks, they are great at performing single-target attacks. This makes them useful as they can protect the Martial Artist and Mage.
Hero + Martial Artist + Monster Wrangler + Mage
Replacing the Warrior with a Monster Wrangler will bring down you’re defensive abilities, but it will increase the damage your party does on its enemies. The hero won’t be protected by the warrior, so they have to focus a bit more on healing.
The Monster Wrangler will be using their special abilities that they learned from monsters to perform multiple target attacks. Meanwhile, the Mage can cast their spells to help damage the enemy.
Hero + Warrior + Monster Wrangler + Priest
This is the kind of party that would be best at defending themselves. The hero can focus on doing damage to the enemy, by using capabilities like boomerangs. The Warrior can either protect the party from damage or use their abilities to do more damage.
Monster Wranglers can perform great attacks and also heal the entire party if needed. The Priest here can be used for healing or buffing spells.
Hero + Warrior + Priest + Mage
This lineup isn’t seen often, but it will help you greatly once the Priest and Mage become a Sage. Hero, Mage and Warrior can focus on causing damage, while the Priest can focus on healing.
Hero + Monster Wrangler + Merchant + Thief
While this isn’t a usual party combination either, this kind of lineup will help you become rich in the game much faster. The Monster Wrangler and Hero can perform decent attacks. Hero can heal too. The Thief is better than the Merchant in terms of battle, but don’t expect anything too powerful.
Hero + Priest + Martial Artist + Mage
Here, the hero can perform both offensive and defensive attacks as needed. The Priest will do all the healing for the party. The Martial Artist class will do what they’re best at, which is using their strength to do great single-target attacks. Mages can go for multi-target damage, making the team a perfectly balanced party.
Hero + Warrior + Monster Wrangler + Martial Artist
Same as the previous lineup, the Hero can do both offense and defense. The Warrior here will be tanking the damage, making it easy for the rest of the party to focus on offensive attacks. Monster Wrangler can cast spells like the Soothing Song, which can heal the party if needed. Martial Artists will be doing most of the damage on the enemies in this lineup.
The personalities of the party members can be changed as well, through the help of seeds. The Vamp is considered a good one to have as it increases the member in both luck and agility. Party members can also be upgraded to a different class through leveling up, which can be done at the Abbot of Alltrades Abbey. You can also swap a party member’s vocation here.
So use a party combination that appeals to you and works with your playstyle, as you can level up into different classes along the way.
