Mewgenics is the type of game that punishes overconfidence, no matter how smoothly you think the run is going. Whether through bad luck at random events or witnessing the enemies lock in to deliver a generational performance to wipe your team, the game reminds you that you’ll have to claw your way through every single encounter.
The infamous Daddy Shark embodies this unforgiving design. An early major roadblock, they rarely appear, but when they do, they’re bound to take a few kitties out of the run with their one-hit kill bite. Before venturing down into the Sewers, it’s important to prepare to beat Daddy Shark in Mewgenics.
Where is Daddy Shark in Mewgenics?

Daddy Shark is a large gray shark found in the Sewers, one of the two branching paths after completing Alley. Despite their intimidating appearance, Daddy Shark is not a mini-boss but a regular enemy encountered in combat.
They aren’t guaranteed to appear, especially when taking the scenic route, but you’re asking for an audience when going through the harder path. Daddy Shark can either appear in an enclosed space or in a larger arena, accompanied by smaller sharks and other regular enemies.
Daddy Shark is a feared enemy because of their ability to instantly eliminate a cat. This is not the regular downed state as encountered in the game so far; the shark swallows them up whole in one bite, permanently taking the cat out of the game.
The large unit takes up multiple spaces and moves one square at a time. It also has a chunky health pool that can tank quite a few hits. However, one scary aspect that makes it hard to beat Daddy Shark is that they gain bonus turns with each bleeding unit, letting them chain feed through your party in the worst-case scenario.
Beating Daddy Shark
Beating Daddy Shark in Mewgenics begins as early as the Alley, where you’re training up your party to dive down into the Sewers. This route is particularly unkind for melee characters with enemies like the Boomer exploding on death, the abundant water tiles slowing down movement, and ofcourse Daddy Shark gulping down anyone in range. Even the final boss of the area needs CC to help with the gimmick.

While levelling up, be on the lookout for abilities with crowd control or displacement. Hunter excels at this and will be the star of the show in the area. Bear traps can immobilize, or they can litter the area with brambles to slow them down.
Hunters also have Bait Trap and Diversion to manipulate Daddy Shark away from the team. The class also has easy access to Charm, turning the danger into entertainment as Daddy Shark gobbles up everyone on their side. The Persuasion Device item takes it a step further and recruits Daddy Shark into your party, making the rest of the run a breeze.
If the Hunter is built for pure damage, Mages and Tanks can also flex into knockback and displacement. Mages have access to abilities that can knockback and freeze, while Tanks also have plenty of ways to knockback, stun, and even toss enemies. Just make sure to reposition the tank safely away from Daddy Shark after their actions.
Daddy Shark Mechanics Explained

Coming into the fight with enough crowd control is the first step to beating Daddy Shark. During the fight, make sure to always right-click (X on controller) on Daddy Shark before their turn to see their effective range. The blue squares represent how far they can move, while the red squares represent death for your cats.
Just knowing that allows you to distance your party from Daddy Shark. However, don’t forget that they can take an extra turn if any of your units (important: including familiars) are bleeding. As long as your party members have even one bleed status effect, either from enemies like Sharky or self-triggered, Daddy Shark becomes an even bigger threat.
Unlike other status effects, Bleed doesn’t go away naturally. It’s the opposite of other status effects as Bleed will continue to increase at the end of the round. Keep the little sharks away if you don’t have any way to remove the debuff, or else you’re donating a full party to the Mystery Man.
