DayZ is infamous for its chain reaction to events that link to one another. It comes as no surprise that when you go out in the rain; you will get wet. If you check your inventory, you will see the ‘SOAKED’ status on every piece of cloth you have on. Wearing soaked clothes for far too long will soon lead to a drop in the body temperature creating a chain reaction to illness. Here we are going to look at the methods you can use to dry your clothes in DayZ.
Drying Clothes in DayZ
The game offers many ways to dry your clothes after spending a long time in the rain. You can also semi-dry your clothes for another short walk or completely dry your clothes to get the proper insulation. We are also going to take a look at some of the quick methods to dry your clothes as well.
Wring Out Your Clothes
Wringing out will not make your clothes completely dry to protect you from the cold outside, but it will make your “SOAKED ” status cloth to “DAMP“. When you wring your clothes; it will restore some level of protection against the cold. To wring out your clothes you will need to be inside a room. Head inside any room you will find when you are out in the rain, and start wringing the clothes out on the floor. Here is how to do it:
- First, drag your SOAKED clothes to your hand and then press LMB to spread it on the floor.
- You must wait several minutes before picking them off the floor. So you will enjoy some insulation protection instead of none.
The game doesn’t let you wring out your Vests, Backpacks, Shoes, and Gloves.
Starting A Fire
If you are out in the rain, always be on the lookout for a room with a fireplace. It will be a godsend to dry your clothes and yourself from the falling temperature. The fireplace also dries your Gloves, Shoes, and other items.
- You can use Paper, Bark, Rags, Matches or Lighters, or Road Flares to start a fire indoors. If you are having trouble finding these ingredients; you can directly use a Hand Drill Kit to start a fire.
- The next thing you should do is strip all of your clothes. Put them in the vicinity of a fireplace. You can also wring your clothes around the fireplace to get them dry.
- Since you can’t wring out a backpack, gloves, and shoes, you just have to drop them around the fireplace’s vicinity.
It will take around a minute or two for the fireplace to dry up all of your clothes. The timer will depend on the wetness of the cloth. If they are drenched in rain, then it would take more than a minute to get completely dry. Once the clothes are completely dried up, the status SOAKED or DAMP will not show up on the items. You can then pick up the clothes off the floor and continue your journey.
Tip: Stay close to the fireplace to get your temperature back up, but make sure it doesn’t get too high. When the temperature gets hot, you will start to lose your health.
Other Ways to Dry Your Clothes:
People have found various ways or workarounds to dry their clothes without resorting to starting a fire in the fireplace.
- Making a torch, dropping it on the ground, and staying close to the torch will dry your clothes. The method doesn’t require you to take off your clothes.
- Drying to a portable stove and gas canister is also the best option to dry the clothes as it creates less smoke than making a bonfire.
It is always a good idea, regardless, to carry some Tetracycline pills in DayZ, in case you are not able to do any of the above. We also have guides on useful mechanics in the game like how to reload in DayZ, or how to open a map in DayZ, do check them in case you are also looking for help on these.
