The battle against Lu Bu is one of the most difficult boss fights in the game. Here you need to rely on your tactics parry and dodge to overcome the challenge. Another noticeable part of the Lu Bu battle lies in his stance, the attack pattern will differ if Lu Bu is on a mounted horse or the ground. Here we are to cover everything you need to know on defeating Lu Bu in Dynasty Warrior Origins.
Lu Bu Boss Fight In Battle Of Xiapi
While there will be a few skirmishes with Lu Bu in earlier chapters, the battle of Xiapi is the definitive boss fight. The battle against Lu Bu comes after you have beaten Chen Gong. The entire battle can be missible if you side with the Sun family in Chapter 3. You get to participate in the Battle of Xiapi and fight Lu Bu only if you have chosen to join Cao Cao’s or Liu Bei’s force near the end of Chapter 3. The boss fight against Lu Bu will be tough, the very first objective is to get him off his mounted horse, which will require us to get his HP down to nearly 80%.
Only then will he get off his Red Hare and start attacking on foot. First, we will cover every attack that you can expect and tactics to avoid them when Lu Bu is riding on the Red Hare. The battle will be assisted by an officer and your companion. So you will not be alone in your battle; if the officer goes down in the battle, the next fighter will take the role. But we recommend not relying on your companion too much, they will just act as meat sponges to take the hits from Lu Bu.
Your primary concerns here should be about dodging, parrying, and effective use of abilities to corner Lu Bu’s attacks. If your parrying game is a bit weak, take your time and practice it before jumping into the battle against Lu Bu.
Red Hare Tactics:
Here is the list of attacks and tactics you can use when the battle begins. We will see Lu Bu riding on a Red Hare, to bring him down to the ground, we need to dodge and attack him at the right time.
- Attack #1: Firing multiple scarlet projectiles from the halberd. But all of it can be easily dodged with proper timing. Here you must stop attacking Lu Bu and look for a way to dodge the upcoming projectiles.
- Attack #2: He will attack in a Zig Zag pattern to take out the troops who are on his way. But before he executes this attack, his Red Hare will begin to glow, this will be an indicator of the upcoming attack. A simple dodge will help you from harm’s way.
- Attack #3: Lu Bu’s actions will sometimes be shrouded in an orange glow, here you can rely on your battle arts or special arts skill to interrupt. Palm Strike will work well against the orange glow attacks.
We advise you to rely on your multi-strike abilities to beat him down, and never stop attacking his shields. That’s the way to the victory. Once his health is down to 80%, he will take the battle on the ground.
On-foot attacks:
Here the name of the game is Perfect Dodge. You must time your dodges to survive a battle against Lu Bu. On a mounted hare, his attack might look devastating but once he gets off the horse, his attacks will be far more unpredictable.
- Attack #1: Here Lu Bu creates Lines of red energy, which can be parried or dodged. You can also use the abilities to counter them.
- Attack #2: Lu Bu glows red and does a single huge forward strike. A simple dodge will help you get out of harm’s way.
- Attack #3: Common melee strikes, all of them can be guarded, dodged, and parried.
- Attack #4: A shockwave attack where Lu Bu jumps into the air crashing on the ground doing a massive shockwave attack. Since it is an AOE attack, being around Lu Bu will not be the brightest idea. Here again, we must rely on the indicator of him jumping into the air, this is our cue to get out as fast as we can. Since it is an AOE attack, a small delay can cost a good amount of health.
Lu Bu moves very quickly in the area, his attacks are also fast and difficult to time the dodges and parries, so it may take a few tries to nail them. So take your time to get used to his attack patterns, and use the indicators to get visual cues for his attacks.
How To Survive The Boss Fight Against Lu Bu?
Timed parry and dodge will save the day against Lu Bu
The goal here is to break down his guard and land as many multi-hit assault strikes as possible. As he moves from Phase 1 to Phase 4, his attacks will get deadlier. But our objective should stay the same, breaking down his guard and landing assault multi-hit strikes. During phase 3, he will resort to grappling after you break his guard, which again will hit harder than before.
His attack pattern will stay the same but as the battle progresses, the damage dealt for each of his attacks will get heavier. So learning to dodge in the initial phase will help immensely in the later stages. The real problem arises when Lu Bu is left with 5% health, here he can perform True Ultimate Musou, which will one-shot you, almost instantly.
Here we recommend you use attacks and skill to break his guard and perform an assault strike afterward. The indicator here is the red glow when he was about to charge Ultimate Musou’s ability. You can also think about using Musou rage abilities at the right time granting us invincibility frames or switching to companions that can help you deal one-on-one damage or endure the deadly damage that will save your life.
