Square Enix has always introduced exciting monsters and quests in their Dragon Quest games, and Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is no different. Like the classic games, you can also recruit friendly monsters to join your team, helping you on your journey. Here’s a guide to some of the best monsters that are worth recruiting along the way.
Top 10 Best Friendly Monsters In Dragon Quest 3 Remake
Out of all the 121 Friendly Monsters, these are the top 10 strongest and most useful comrades while exploring around Aliahan.

1. Liquid Metal Slime
- Resistance: Fire, Dazzle, Snooze, Thwack, Fizzle, Kasap
These shiny, viscous creatures resemble liquid mercury and have a fluid-like appearance. With their high agility and impressive defense, they are must-haves for your party. They’re also resistant to all forms of magic, making them a good asset for your team.
Dragon Quest 3 Remake has only one Friendly Liquid Metal Slime that you can recruit, who goes by “Quicksilver”. Quicksilver is found in Basement 3 of the Pit Room in Zoma’s Citadel. Since this slime is very prone to running away, keep a Monster Wrangler with you to make things easy.
2. Infernal Serpent

- Resistance: Drain Magic, Poof, Fizzle
This fearsome, dragon-like creature is decorated with purple scales and bright yellow eyes. Despite its majestic appearance, it is said to be the mature form of a Salamander Fry, which was first introduced in Dragon Quest IV. With its powerful Fire and Inferno abilities, the Infernal Serpent can easily bring down any monster.
The Infernal Serpent in DQ3 Remake is named Soaron and can be found at a secret spot near Zoma’s Citadel. To encounter Soaron, you’ll need to pursue the secret ending, which leads to a battle with the boss Xenlon. Soaron will be near the path leading to Citadel.
3. Green Dragon

Resistance: Fizzle, Poof, Snooze, Drain Magic
Another Dragon-like creature, the Green Dragon is a rare and legendary species in the Dragon Quest series, First introduced in the original game, these beasts have always been difficult to obtain. You can add a Green Dragon to your party once you’ve completed the main story,
There are two Green Dragons in DQ3, the Green Giant and Scales. The Green Giant is found in a hidden area that lies to the southeast of Craggy Cave. As for Scales, it can be found in the 3rd level of the post-game dungeon in Heavens.
4. Cureslime

Resistance: Drain Magic, Poof
Cureslimes are good monsters to have on your team, thanks to their ability to quickly heal your entire party during intense battles. They are also easy to get, appearing in the early parts of the game. This makes them a great choice for new players. While you can also go for Healslimes as an alternative, Cureslimes generally offer stronger healing power.
There are three Cureslimes in this game, Curie, Meddie, and Mendy. Curie can be found on the northeast side of Lanson, just east of the shrine. Meddie is seen on the western side of the Castle of the Dragon Queen. To get Mendy, you’ll have to go to the Cloudsgate Citadel, which is near the southeastern fountain. If you don’t find them in their areas, try coming back at dusk.
5. Soaring Scrouger

Resistance: Drain Magic, Whack
These green goblins are very demonic looking, but they are strong monsters once recruited onto your side. They have strong attacks but lack in defense and agility. There is only one Soaring Scrouger in the game, named “Sky”. Sky is found at the southwestern dead end of 3rd level of the basement in Zoma’s Citadel.
6. Antgobbler

Resistance: Drain Magic, Fizzle
Antgobblers, related to the earlier Antnibbler and Antguzzler species, have been a part of Dragon Quest 3 since its original release. These monsters have dark green fur, a light green face, and red eyes, giving them an intimidating appearance. They can use their long, purple tongues to strike at anyone in their path. While they can be annoying foes, Antgobblers make surprisingly effective comrades.
There are two Antgobblers in Dragon Quest 3 Remake, Gobblebert & Antony. Gobblebert can be found in a hidden area in the Canyon that lies to the north of Romaria. As for Antony, it can be found at B2’s underground lake.
7. Cumaulus

Resistance: Poof, Snooze, Dazzle
Cumauluses are just as dangerous as their appearance suggests. These are small, greyish-white cloud-like monsters that can dissolve in thin air to evade attacks. They can cast fire-breathing attacks, which are effective against many monsters. While their HP isn’t too high, it’s wise to keep a healer in your party to keep Cumaulus in fighting shape during battles. They have high utility and agility, making them a good ally.
Cloud, Rainey, and Fluffy are the three Cumaulus monsters you can find in this remake. Cloud will be at a hidden spot in the snow coast that lies northeast of Khoryu, Rainey will be at the eastern side of Edina Rooftop, while Fluffy can be found in a hidden area southwest of Olivia’s promontory.
8. Armor

Resistance: Drain Magic, Whack, Fuddle, Fizzle
These monsters are believed to be the restless souls of the swordmen who wish to wield a sword one last time and remain in the Mortal realm. They could also be undead beings possessed by souls who are determined to continue fighting. Regardless of what they are, these armored warriors are physical powerhouses. They can land frequent critical hits, making them a strong and valuable addition to any team.
Another cool thing that these Restless Armors can do is call Healslimes to bring back the lost HP in battles. Arthur, Percival, Bedivere, and Galahad are the four Restless Armor monsters in the game. Arthur can be found in a secret area that lies to the south of Asham, Percival lies to the southeast of Alltrades abbey, and Bedivere can be found in one of the paths near Gaia’s Navel. Arthur and Percival will only be available at night time.
You’ll have to use Musk before approaching Bedivere at Gaia’s Navel. For Galahad, you’ll need the Everbird. Once you have it, go to the secret area on the north of Persistence.
9. Catula

Resistance: Drain Magic, Fizzle
Just like Dracula does with blood, these blue Catulas can easily drain you of your MP in each battle. They have decent Attack, Defense, and Agility, making them a perfect monster to recruit while you’re in the middle parts of the game.
Alutac and Luna are the two Catula’s that can be found in Dragon Quest 3 Remake. Alutac is usually seen in the western staircase on the second floor of the Tower of Transcendence. Luna can be found in the northeast area of Jipang. You might have to go to Jipang at Dusk to catch Luna.
10. Elysium Bird

Resistance: Poof
Another healing monster, the Elysium Bird has red and purple feathers with a yellow beak. These monsters can multiheal and restore the health of all party members. They have good attack power and agility but have normal defense. There are two Elysium Birds in Dragon Quest 3 HD 2D, Beaker and Cronus. Beaker can be found in a hidden area that lies to the west of Aliahan Island. You would need the Everbird to travel all the way to this area.
Cronus can be found on a small island that lies between the northeast and southeast continents of Alefgard. They might be hard to recruit in the early parts of the game, but once you have them, you can easily defeat any monster that comes your way.
How To Catch Friendly Monsters
To recruit monsters in DQ3 Remake, having a Monster Wrangler in your team is advised. These special party members can easily recruit monsters that usually run away or are very hard to get. They can also sense the presence of monsters in any land using their “Animal Instinct” and prevent you from wasting your time searching around for them.
Animal instinct can give you a hint on where the monster is:
- Not Too Far Away: Monster is present on an adjacent screen
- Ready to be Wrangled nearby: Monster is on the current screen
If you don’t have a Monster Wrangler, you can still recruit Monsters, but you’ll have to use certain spells & abilities. There are a total of 121 friendly monsters that you can recruit, with each having their battle style. Recruiting all of them will unlock the achievement of “Monster Monitor“.
To check how many monsters you’ve added to your team, go to any Monster Arena and speak to Monty. You can also have a battle between the monsters you’ve captured at these tournaments.
