Chase Change in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is a technique that involves switching to your other character while you are executing a combo. It is only one of the plethora of different mechanics that the game teaches you in its hour-long tutorial which most players tend to skip. In this guide, I will teach you how to use Chase Change on both Classic Layout and Standard Layout controls.

How To Perform Chase Change In Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero

The Chase Change mechanic in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is executed in two different ways based on which control layout you are using. So let’s take a look at how you can achieve this for both of them.

    Chase Change on Standard Layout

Here is how you can perform a Chase Change move to quickly change to your other character when using the Standard Layout controls:

    1. Start your Rush Attack combo and preferably execute it to the point where your character does an attack that pushes away your enemy so that you have enough time, although you can do this at any point in the combo.
    2. Press the Left button on the D-pad immediately as the enemy is pushed back to open the character switch menu.
    3. Now press the corresponding button of the character you want to switch to and you will successfully perform a Chase Change in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

It is important to know that when you pull up the character switch menu with the D-pad, you need to switch characters without doing any movement inputs. Moving around while the character switch menu is active will make you back out of the menu.

    Chase Change on Classic Layout

Here is how you can perform a Chase Change in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero when using the Classic Layout controls:

    1. Start a Rush Attack combo and wait for the pushback attack if possible to have enough time to switch.
    2. When the enemy is pushed back or whenever you want to perform the Chase Change, press L3 + R3 on the PlayStation controller or LS + RS on the Xbox controller (Pushing down on both analog sticks) This will open up the character switching menu.
    3. Flick your right analog stick towards the character you want to switch to from the character switch menu without inputting any movement with the left analog stick. You will now successfully perform a Chase Change.

Timing is everything with Chase Change in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero just like other difficult timing-based mechanics in this game such as deflecting Beam Blasts or using Counters. It is best advised that you head to the training and practice this to the fullest before attempting it in a Ranked Match or a difficult Story mission.
