The new Milepost Zero update is in full swing, and with it are some notable new features. You can meet new NPCs, pick up new quests, and follow up with the main storyline. For this update, you get to work with the Blue Ridge Caravan Company and help them in escorting their cargo to the desired destination. Operating your caravan is the main objective of this update. This task is relatively tough, so you need to up your game and learn how to complete the Caravan missions without faltering.
In this guide we have put up all the details on how to start and operate your caravan in Fallout 76. You might have to run your caravan several times to properly fine-tune and refine your approach.
How To Start The Caravan Operation In Fallout 76
You can own and start your caravan by unlocking Milepost Zero, talking to Marley and finishing the ‘Bump in the Road’ side quest. Go through Marley’s dialogs and she will ask you to lend her some caps for her caravan business. You can either choose to hand over the required caps, or tell her no. Either way, you will get a notification on the top left corner of the screen that will indicate that you can start your caravan.
How To Complete The Caravan Operation In Fallout 76
To successfully complete the Caravan mission, you have to escort the Brahmin from point A to point B while protecting it from enemy attacks. After completing the Bump in the Road quest, you can operate your caravan whenever you want. While escorting the Brahmin, you will encounter enemies that you need to quickly kill so your Brahmin won’t get hurt or worse, killed. If your Brahmin dies, then you lose the mission and start over. At the end of your journey, there is a supply box where you have to deposit the supplies off your caravan to complete the objective
There are three caravan mission types you can select, and each of them will offer varying costs to start it and different reward amounts upon completion. Below are all the caravans you can send, its cost, and the supplies earned from each
- Small Caravan Delivery
- Cost: 100 * bottle caps
- Reward for completion: 10 * supplies
- Participants get: 1 * supply
- Medium Caravan Delivery
- Cost: 400 * bottle caps
- Reward for completion: 25 * supplies
- Participants get: 3 * supplies
- Large Caravan Delivery
- Cost: 1200 * bottle caps
- Reward for completion: 50 * supplies
- Participants get: 5 * supplies
Luckily, the Brahmin caravan escort mission isn’t single player. You can invite your friends and have them help defend the caravan till it reaches its destination. But participants get significantly lower rewards than the host, so most players are better off starting their own caravan mission and completing them by themselves.
Also, there is a small discount on Large Caravan Delivery costs if you manage to pick up another order within 10 hours. So instead of splurging 1200 caps, you can instead spend 1000 caps if you pick up the next Large order within the hours mentioned above.
How To Protect Your Caravan In Fallout 76
Since the Brahmin can take damage, we strongly recommend that you bring items that can heal you and your caravan. There are tons of healing weapons that you can bring along, and below are a few of the best choices
- Medic’s Poker Prime Gatling Plasma
- Holy Fire
- Medic’s Fanatic Burning Auto Axe
- Medic’s Tricentennial Scattered Automatic Laser Rifle
While picking out a healing weapon, look for an attribute that says it can heal friendly targets when shooting at them. So you can get a two in one, as you can attack enemies with these weapons, and at the same time heal the Brahmin caravan
What To Do With Supplies In Fallout 76
Supplies can be used in Fallout 76 to purchase new vendors from Marley, and in turn get access to new items from their stores like blueprints, mods and other useful consumables. Each vendor will have different costs to unlock them, so you might have to make several caravan runs to accumulate the required supplies. Below are all the vendors you can unlock
- Josie the Brahmin Tamer
- Axel the Decorator
- Ineke the Imported Goods Trader
- Theodore the Ammo Vendor
We would recommend unlocking Josie first, as she sells items that increase health, reflect damage, increase speed & health regeneration, and so on. Theodore is also a useful vendor to unlock if you want to try out the V63 Laser Carbine – a new weapon introduced along with this update.
Following through with your caravan might seem like a daunting task, but it is well worth it in the end. And that’s everything there is to know about the caravans and how to operate them in Fallout 76 Milepost Zero.
