Publisher Saber Interactive finally pulled the plug on Evil Dead: The Game on Steam after taking it out of the Epic Games and PlayStation stores. The hammer finally landed on the game’s Steam and Xbox versions. Now you will not be able to buy Evil Dead: The Game on any digital storefront. A sad state of affairs of a game being pulled from the store, only 2 years after its initial launch. Saber Interactive released a statement regarding the removal of Evil Dead: The Game.
“We can confirm we’ve begun the process of removing the game from digital storefronts. Anyone who has purchased the game will still be able to play it as we plan to keep our servers online for everyone.
We want to extend a sincere thank you to our community, to those who have been part of the game from the very beginning, and those who have recently joined us. We appreciate all of your support.“
People who tried their hand at the game could tell the fate of its eventual demise a long time ago, since the developer stopped making any new content for the game back in 2023. The cancelled Nintendo Switch port was also a worrying sign of the decline of the game in terms of engagement or popularity. The silver lining here is that the game is playable for people who own the game, and the servers will stay up for anyone who just wants to jump in.
Since the game features no offline mode, cutting the server will end the game forever. Putting an offline mode can save this game for the long term, like it happened for many online-focused titles in the past. While offline mode will not offer the full potential of the game but at least it will be playable for anyone who bought the game at full price. The game received positive feedback when it was released, it holds a 72 on Metacritic and a very positive review on Steam.
