I rarely struggle with puzzles, but unlocking the golden chest in Where Winds Meet took me ages. If you’ve completed the Jinming Pool Campaign quest, you’ve probably spotted the locked chest on the lake’s pier, too. I figured the boatman nearby would help me out, but all he wanted was the Explosive Device Plans.
Would that help me unlock the chest? There is only one way to find out. So, off I went to find the Explosive Device Plans, but you may be wondering where you even begin with such a task?
If you are like me and struggling with the same issue, I’ve got you covered. Follow these steps to unlock the golden chest in Where Winds Meet.
Getting the Explosive Device Plans in Where Winds Meet
After completing the Jinming Pool Campaign quest and defeating the boss here, you will be teleported to the edge of a lake, where you will find a large golden chest.
To unlock the chest, speak to the boatman nearby, called Tang Ji’an. He will ask you to retrieve the Explosive Device Plans to be used on the chest to unlock it. To find the blueprint, you need to collect three mechanical eagle parts to reveal a secret area.
Collecting the Eagle Parts
There are three mechanical parts to collect, and all three can be found around the Jade Mirror Pond area in Kaifeng. Once you reach this spot, visit the following areas to collect the parts.
Enter the waterfall and walk up the stone wall under the waterfall. Once you reach the top, use a flaming arrow to burn down the vines blocking the cave entrance. A few steps away, collect the first Wandering Tales clue to get the first mechanical part.
Head back to the gazebo outside the waterfall. Jump into the water near the gazebo and swim down to find an underwater shrine. Pick up the second Wandering Tales clue inside the shrine and head back up.
To get the final part, you need to head out a bit northwest within Jade Mirror Pond, right at the location that looks similar to an eagle in flight. Walk up to the tomb near the shore to pick up the final Wandering Tales clue, which unlocks the final eagle part.
Speak to Li Shoujie
After obtaining all the eagle parts, make your way to the bridge in the center of Jade Mirror Pond. You will spot an NPC in full body armor called Li Shoujie. Talk to him and hand over all the eagle parts. Teleport away from Kaifeng after that and wait for a couple of in-game days.
Change the time to past midnight, then head back to the gazebo at Jade Mirror Pond. Li Shoujie will be waiting inside the gazebo this time. Speak to him to receive the almost completed mechanical eagle, but it still requires one vital part.
For that, you need to hand the machine over to Murong Yuan. But since you had killed her earlier, this would be a difficult task. Nevertheless, you could speak to another NPC to continue the questline.
Speak to Shi Shouxin
Teleport to the South Imperial Gardens in Kaifeng. In the southern section of the area is a building with a cross on the roof. Make your way there and speak to Shi Shouxin.
Deliver the mechanical eagle to him, and he supposedly promises to pass it along to Murong Yuan. Now, you have to wait till the game resets to continue with the rest of the questline.
Starting the Soaring Eagle Quest
Travel back to Jade Mirror Pond after midnight, and you will spot a young girl called ZhenZhen near the gazebo to speak to. Hand over the Wooden Eagle Diagram that you picked up from Jinming Pool Campaign to start the Soaring Eagle quest.
You now need to wait for the next day to roll by and change the time to Xu’s hour. Check your map to find a new quest marker near the southern border of Kaifeng City. You will find ZhenZhen here again, so follow the rest of the linear questline with her.
Collect the Explosive Device Plans
Your next objectives will lead you to the Mozi Shrine to learn more about Murong Yuan. Beside the shrine is a trap door, open it and fall through to the Kite Hangar.
Explore the cave and investigate the scene to find the ghost of Murong Yuan. You will get the Explosive Device Plans after speaking to her. Continue with the rest of the cave exploration till you find the exit.
Unlock the Golden Chest
To find the chest again, head over to the Bian River Gate to the west of Kaifeng City. Hand over the Explosive Device Plans to Tang Ji’an, and you are now free to unlock the golden chest. In it, you will find rewards like Jade Fish and Enlightenment.
Complete the Soaring Eagle Quest
Speak to Shi Shouxin at North Imperial Garden this time, then wait a few in-game days. Visit the Jade Mirror Pond again and speak to ZhenZhen to complete the quest. You will receive the following rewards for completing the questline.
- 50x Echo Jade
- 50x Kaifeng Exploration
- 10,000x Coin
- 10,000x Stored XP
- 1x Inscription: Magpie Immortal
