Starfield Walk The Serpent’s Path: Which Effigy To Pick?

The mission The Promised, Broken in Shattered Space DLC will fill out the lore aspect of the new region, where the game will explain everything you need to know about the Va’ruun’kai and everything that happened in the city of Dazra. The first crucial decision-making comes at the end of the quest, where Inaza Kaisir after explaining the backstory behind House Va’ruun, you will have to then choose two effigies for the rest of the storyline. Here in the guide, we will briefly explain the challenges you can complete to go through the Serpent’s Path, and lastly the effigies for your character.

Here you will go through five checkpoints before getting to decide on the Effigy for your character.

Like any cult, you will have to do certain things to gain their respect. To show your dedication to the Great Serpent, you must walk the line. Talk to the NPCs to get the quest started in the City of Darza. Then interact with Mailbor Dul’kehf to help you lead to the prominent NPC of the DLC Inaza Kaisir.

    • First Checkpoint: Simple, just blow the candle to continue the Serpent’s path.
    • Second Checkpoint: Toss out any item in your inventory into the brazier to move on. The item doesn’t have to be special, just throw out any junk you picked from the world.
    • Third Checkpoint: Go full-on Assassins Creed, and take a leap of faith, you also have the choice to move past this section by taking the metal stairs.
    • Fourth Checkpoint: Getting your feet wet in the poisoned water. You can use the medkits to restore some health afterward.
    • Fifth Checkpoint: Lastly, by sacrificing a goat, you have the option to leave the goat if you don’t want to kill it.

Can I Skip The Trial Challenges For The Serpent’s Path?

None of them have any impact on the story if you decide to skip one or every one of them.

All the checkpoints mentioned above to finish the trial, are meant for entertainment. So far, no consequences or rewards you would get from completing the trial for Serpent’s Path for the Shattered Space DLC have been experienced by us while playing the game. We recommend you take the trail for a proper role-play, you can mess around the trial without facing any consequences for the actions.

That’s it, now we move on to what matters for the last bit of the quest, effigies.

Which Effigies Should You Choose In The Serpent’s Path?

The effigies will create your Title for the House Va’ruun. You must pick two effigies to earn the title of House Va’runn.

    Effigy OneEffigy TwoTitle Earned
    Effigy of DevotionEffigy of ObedienceReverent
    Effigy of DevotionEffigy of StrengthHarbinger
    Effigy of DevotionEffigy of PerseveranceDiviner
    Effigy of ObedienceEffigy of StrengthArmiger
    Effigy of ObedienceEffigy of PerseveranceAdherent
    Effigy of StrengthEffigy of PerseveranceVindicator

Note: To make things clear, the only question anyone will have about the effigies is: Does it matter? The answer is yes, in a way. The title you earn from combining two effigies will not impact the progress of the Shattered Space DLC. The NPC will only use the title to refer to your character for the rest of the DLC. That’s all there is to it, nothing more.

In short, both the trial for the Serpent’s Path and the effigies you choose have zero to no influence on the rest of the questline in Shattered Space, but are great value for the role-playing part of the game.

Once you have chosen two specific effigies, speak to Inaza Kaisir to finish the mission. You will receive 12000 Credits, a Poison-reforged Va’ruun Schimaz Epic Melee weapon, and 350 XP.

If you are looking for help in locating Vaeric, or pondering which option to choose at the end of that mission, you may want to check out our guide on Conflict of Conviction.
