One of the first things that you have do to in Luma Island is to choose a profession that will get you started with the game. After you reach the Town Hall, you’ll be asked to choose your profession. While the profession you choose depends on the kind of gameplay you want to have, some professions are much better for someone who’s just starting out at the game.
The game does give us an option to try out new professions later in the story, but they’ll cost you a certain amount of gold. To help you choose the profession most suited for the gameplay you’d like, here’s a list of all professions in Luma Island, and our recommendation for the best profession to start the game.
All Professions In Luma Island Explained
There are 7 professions in Luma Island, each with its own pros and cons. Let’s have a look at each of these in detail
Archaeologist
Starting out with the toughest profession, the archaeologists’ job is to find relics that are spread all over Luma Island. If you want to know how hard it is, the developers graded this profession with three skulls instead of stars. Your mentor will be Arianne, who is present at the North side of the town. She would be standing near a pet shop on a hill.
Besides collecting relics, the archaeologist has to explore dark, scary places filled with ghosts and spiders. You’ll have to go mining at these areas to gather bronze, copper and other material. Since Jewelry Crafters are also tasked with collecting such items, it would be a good addition with this profession. Archaeologists also have access to mysteriously hidden places like Ancient temples, so it’s a profession you should try out once you get used to the game.
Blacksmith
Given a difficulty rating of 2 stars, the Blacksmith profession involves collecting materials from abandoned caves to build new items. You’ll be gathering Copper and Iron to make new machines and crafting stations. Sylvia will be your mentor, who is usually present right by the entrance of the Town.
After all that mining and smithing, you can sell your items for a good price. Blacksmith is a good profession for those wanting to explore around Luma Island, while also building their workspace. It’s a suitable addition along with the Jewelry Crafter or Archaeologist.
Cook
Given a difficulty rating of just one star, this profession involves farming and cooking up new dishes. You can farm new fruits and vegetables and create dishes that sell for an adequate amount of gold. The mentor for the Cook profession is Enzo, who can be seen in his restaurant near the bridge towards the South.
As you keep creating dishes, you will be able to unlock new recipes that sell for a higher price. With the Stove and the Flour mill as your first main stations, you’ll unlock new items like the Oil mill with each new milestone. The Cooking profession goes well with the Brewer one since both of them are quite similar. This profession is suitable for someone who wants to experience a true farming simulator while also having a steady income.
Jewelry Crafter
This has a difficulty rating of 2 stars, but can get dangerous if you don’t keep an eye out for evil creatures and traps. Your mentor will be Milo, who is present at the Tool Upgrade station in the town. The Jewelry Crafter profession involves collecting shiny items like the Bronze Rubble, Mountain Crystals, Tiger’s eye and whatnot. As pretty as these things are, they also happen to be hidden in some of the scariest caves of Luma Island.
There’s a lot of mining and exploring involved, so you have to know how to defend yourself against the ghosts and spiders. The items you make will sell for a good price, making this a good profession to have with other ones like Blacksmith or Treasure Hunter.
Treasure Hunter
This profession has a difficulty rating of just 1 star, despite the amount of exploring you’ll have to do. This is because, once you go and meet Captain Quincy at the Harbor, he’ll give you a cute little companion dog that’ll help you in each of your treasure hunts. You’ll later also be able to use a Luma to help you on your quests.
A Treasure Hunter’s job is to locate unique items and treasures of Luma Island. You’ll have to collect materials for Pirate gear, and while doing that you can unlock new secrets of the game. Since there’s a lot of exploring involved, this profession isn’t suitable for those looking to build a cozy farm at one place. You can also gather pirate stuff by fishing, so this profession goes well with the Fisherman one.
Brewer
With a difficulty rating of 1 star, Brewer’s profession involves gathering and farming ingredients for all sorts of drinks. Bill’s the mentor here, who’s present at the Western area of the Town. Besides the drink ingredients, you’ll also have to make glass bottles, get coloring items and find new things to use in your drinks.
This profession is good for those looking to settle in one place for some time and build their farm, while also getting rewarded with a nice quantity of gold for each drink. The downside of this profession is the time the drinks take to form, so it’s better if you are a Brewer and an other profession like the Cook.
Fisherman
This Luma Island profession has a difficulty rating of 2 stars, with Pearl being your mentor. A Fisherman’s job is to gather all kinds of fish that you can cook and sell for gold. There will be new varieties being unlocked as you progress as a Fisherman. There’s some level of exploration involved too, as you’ll have to go to new places to find these rare fishes.
This profession is good for you if you like fishing and exploring a little bit while also building your base. A Fisherman and a cook are a good combination for you if you’re just starting out in the game.
Best Profession To Start With In Luma Island
The profession you start off with can hugely impact your experience with the game.
We recommend starting off either as a Cook, Fisherman, or Treasure Hunter. These professions do not involve high levels of danger and the tasks are relatively easy to do. You’ll also get time to explore around and understand the map of Luma Island.
These professions will earn you enough gold, you won’t have to worry about constantly gathering new items. If you’re into creating a pretty farm, gathering supplies, and playing the game at your own pace, the Cook & Fisherman profession is for you. On the other hand. if you like exploring around and finding little secrets, the Treasure Hunter profession should be your choice.
Other professions like the Jewelry Crafter, Archaeologist, and Blacksmith are good for those who’ve already seen most of the map and want to now explore hidden places, and collect all items that the game has to offer( like all 11 Tepid Crystal offerings, or all 10 Forest Crystals)and build more complicated stuff.
