With the kind of emphasis that Black Myth Wukong lays on combat, if you have gone through the tutorial, you would be wondering if you missed the part where parrying was discussed – since, obviously, looking at the Sekiro inspiration and other souls-likes and action games; timing parries to stun enemies and following up with devastating combos is one of the most satisfying combat mechanics in such games. But this is very much present in the game, and we have put up all the details here on how to parry in Black Myth Wukong
How To Parry In Black Myth Wukong
Parrying in Black Myth Wukong is done through the Rock Solid spell which you obtain as part of the main story progression by defeating the Tiger Vanguard boss in the Crouching Tiger Temple. And yes, like all other spells, you can only use it a limited number of times as much as your mana allows it. The Rock Solid spell consumes 30 Mana and has a 15 second cooldown before you can use it again. The good thing is that unlike say a Sekiro or a Wo Long : Fallen Dynasty, the parrying window is a bit more relaxed. I guess the developers gave the more liberal parrying window to balance off the limited number of times you can put it to use.
The spell belongs to the Alteration class, and hence you will need to take a call between this one and the Cloud Step spell that you would have obtained on defeating the Black Wind King in Chapter 1. This ultimately boils down to choice; though the one thing in favour of Rock Solid is that it can be used to prevent damage from most attacks. On a successful parry, you will have a bright flash of light at the point of contact and the enemy will get staggered.
Perks To Improve Parry In Black Myth Wukong
You can unlock perks to make Rock Solid that much more effective in combat:
- Rapid Return : Rock Solid can be canceled.
- Rock Mastery : Reduces cooldown for the spell.
- Nick Of Time : Grants a considerable amount of Focus on performing a successful deflection.
- Ironclad : Grants damage reduction for a short period of time on performing a successful deflection.
- Upper Hand : Increases light attack damage on performing a successful deflection.
- Bold Venture : Recover some mana on performing a successful deflection; however the parrying window is narrowed.
You can also select Sound As A Bell bonus in the Relic ‘Fuming Ears’ – It narrows the window for Rock Solid deflection, but reduces the Mana cost to half upon a successful deflection. There are other limited ways to increase Mana as well through Celestial Medicines which can help increase the number of times Rock Solid can be cast.
How To Parry In Black Myth Wukong Using Spirit Forms
There are a couple of Spirit Forms as well that you can transform into; which do the equivalent of a parry attack:
- Flint Chief – This unlocks quite late in the game at Chapter 5 and has you take the form of a solid rock to deflect the enemy attack.
- Earth Rakshasha – This also unlocks right after the Flint Chief, and gives you the ability to plant a heavy shield to first damage enemies nearby with the slam, and then blocking enemy attacks.
