Your first real mission in Abiotic Factor is to open a locked cafeteria door to help the trapped Dr. Jager. While the tutorial ends before this part begins, this mission still works like an extended introduction. Figuring out how to unlock the cafeteria door can be a bit confusing for many players.
This article will provide a detailed guide on how you can open the Cafeteria Door in Abiotic Factor.
Abiotic Factor: How To Open the Cafeteria Door
Opening the Cafeteria Door requires you to complete certain steps and craft an Energy Brick. Here is how you can complete this task:
Speak with Dr. Thule
The game begins in the Office Sector. You’ll meet Dr. Thule sitting on a bench near the cafeteria. He’ll mention that his colleague, Dr. Jager, is trapped behind the cafeteria door. Thule won’t give much direction beyond that, so you’ll have to find your own way to unlock the door.
Explore the Storage Room and Find the Vents

Start by heading to the Storage Room. Exit the elevator, turn right, and follow the wall. You’ll see large windows looking into the Storage Room. Walk down the stairs to the lower level and enter the room.
Once you’re inside the Storage Room, make sure to gather as many useful materials as you can. Check the bench near Dr. Thule to pick up some Cloth Scraps, and search the shelves for Duct Tape. You should also dismantle the vent covers to collect Metal Scrap.
Picking up different materials can unlock new crafting options, so it’s a good idea to grab whatever you come across, even if you don’t need it immediately. You can always store or drop items later if your inventory fills up.
Along one wall of the Storage Room, you’ll see three floor-level vents. The first two on the left won’t lead anywhere important but do contain extra Duct Tape.
The third vent, located on the far right, is the one that lets you progress. Crouch down and crawl through that one to move forward with the mission.
Defeat the Enemies Using Throw Nets

After making your way through the vent, you’ll arrive in a new room where you’ll spot another piece of Cloth Scrap on the floor. Use this material to craft a set of Throw Nets from your crafting menu. Each Cloth Scrap gives you three nets, which are essential for taking down enemies.
In the center of this room, there’s a Carbuncle—an enemy that can be dealt with easily using your newly crafted nets. Toss a net to trap it, then walk over and finish it off using the Stomp prompt. This approach works well against all similar enemies you’ll encounter in this area.
Move ahead through the gray door and take a right turn. You’ll find yourself in a room filled with ventilation fans. There’s another enemy here, so repeat the same method to defeat it. Afterward, look for a vent that’s lit up with a yellow glow. That’s your way out.
Before crawling through the vent, check the Toolbox nearby and grab a screwdriver. You’ll need it soon for assembling important equipment. Once you’re ready, head through the vent to reach the next section.
Collect Pipes and Watch for Another Enemy

When you land in the lower chamber, look around for metal pipes along the walls—they’ll be marked in yellow. Use the dismantle function to break down at least three of them and collect Metal Pipes, which are important for crafting later on.
You might also come across some Pressure Gauges in the area. These aren’t needed right now, so feel free to leave them unless you’re interested in unlocking additional crafting options.
There’s one more enemy in this room. It’s a bit faster, so dodge its attacks, trap it with a net, and stomp it. When you’re done, find the orange door on the lower level and move on.

Reach the Kitchen and Find the Security Office

In the following area, check the crate to your side and grab the Flashlight, it’ll help you navigate the darker rooms ahead. Walk past the computer terminal, then take a right turn to enter the kitchen. Inside, you’ll come across several Metal Knives and a cooking station. Be on alert, as enemies may appear in this section.
You’ll notice a locked door in this area that leads to the Security Office. To reach it, look for a green button mounted on the wall next to a metal gate. Press it to exit the kitchen, then turn left. The entrance to the Security Office will be right ahead.
Nearby, you’ll also see Dr. Jager stuck behind the cafeteria door. An enemy is interfering with some electronics near the lock. To open this door, you’ll need to craft and use an Energy Brick.

How to Craft an Energy Brick in Abiotic Factor

Enter the Security Office and move through the first area into the next room. In there, you’ll spot two broken computers on a coffee table, along with what looks like a calculator. This is your Tech Scrap. Pick it up, and also grab the nearby Table Leg, which you’ll use in the next step.
Use the Table Leg to break both computers. Each one will drop:
- Circuit Board ×1
- Power Supply Unit ×1
- Case Fan ×1
Now, open your crafting menu. You’ll see a new entry for the IDEA: Energy Brick. This shows the required components:
- Tech Scrap ×1
- Circuit Board ×1
- Power Supply Unit ×1
- Case Fan ×1
Place these four items into the proper slots, then click the brain icon to unlock the Energy Brick recipe.
Power a Crafting Bench
You’ll need a Powered Crafting Bench to build the Energy Brick. Set one up near an electrical outlet. When placing the bench, look for electrical outlets that show the outlet’s wire range. Use the screwdriver to build the bench.
Once the bench is ready, drag the wire from the outlet to the bench to power it. Now you can craft the Energy Brick using the components you collected.
Unlock the Cafeteria Door in Abiotic Factor

Take the Energy Brick back to the cafeteria door where the enemy was chewing the electronics. Defeat the enemy, then insert the Energy Brick into the wall to repair the locking system. The door will open.
Be careful: the moment the door opens, a powerful creature called a Peccary will attack Dr. Jager and then turn to you. This enemy is much tougher than the others, so be prepared or quickly run past it if you’re not ready for a fight.
Once you escape or defeat the Peccary, you’ll reach the main hub area of the facility and meet a security guard. From here, the game opens up with new objectives and tougher enemies, so make sure to collect useful items and keep improving your build.
