Players will be testing their survival skills in this unique zombie RPG, as there are a lot of important features that are jam packed into the game. Scavenging for resources is one such survival skill that you need to learn in early game, which you can do by checking empty houses and corpses. But there is also a way where you can loot items from zombies, and this guide will detail how to do just that in Project Zomboid.
Project Zomboid: Zombie Looting Guide

If you don’t find an option to loot a corpse, then you must remember that bodies are treated the same as containers. You need to select the same option to loot containers and apply it to zombies. To loot a zombie, hover your cursor over the top of your screen where you can find the Inventory and Loot tabs.
If you don’t have this option on your screen, press the “i” key to bring it up. Select the Loot tab and you will get a list of items from the corpses near your feet. The best way to collect everything in one go is to pick up each body, make a pile, then select the Loot option. You can then go through the list of items on their body and pick up the ones that you want. If you want to check a corpse’s loot individually, you can select each corpse available nearby from the right side of the loot menu. Or just press Shift+mouse scroll to toggle through the corpses.
All Zombie Loot Drops

Looting zombies might not be your go-to when it comes to finding items, but sometimes you might come across some rare treasures. If you encounter police or military zombies, there is a high chance that you can collect heavy-duty weapons off their corpses. You can also spot other zombie types holding guns or tools that can be picked up after they are killed. Sometimes, you can also find watches in the zombie loot pool, and those can be picked up for the electrical components.
But the most important item that you can pick up off zombies are clothes, which can be converted to thread for tailoring. If you spot zombies using backpacks, go straight for the kill and loot their backpacks to find items. Some of the richer zombies have a chance to drop jewelry, and with the right mods, you can either sell them or smelt them into something more valuable.
Once you are done looting all the zombie corpses, you can then burn them up by placing a lit bonfire on them. Zombies can disintegrate naturally as well, so they can be left alone as time will take care of them.
