How To Get Your Own Freighter in No Man’s Sky
There are two ways you can get a Freighter in No Man’s Sky, either by saving a Freighter from a pirate attack when you jump in a new system or by simply flying to one, talking with its captain, and buying it with Units.
How to Buy Freighter
If you are looking to buy a Freighter, you should know that they don’t come cheap. It’s one of the most expensive things to buy in the game, especially if you are looking for a solid S-class Freighter.
Once you have a lot of units accumulated, you can set out into space and go in and out of your pulse drive to trigger the Freighters to spawn. Once you find the one you like, board it, head to the bridge, and talk with the captain to buy it from them.
How to Get Freighter for Free
If you are just starting out No Man’s Sky and don’t have the Units to buy a Freighter yet, you can still get one for free. In fact, all players get one for free in the early stages of the game. Here is how you can get a Freighter for free in No Man’s Sky:
- After leaving the planet you spawned in, repair your HyperDrive and jump to other systems.
- Once you have jumped to five different systems, you will encounter your first Space Rescue mission.
- Defeat the pirate ships that are attacking the friendly freighter.
- Once you do that you will receive an invitation from the captain to board the freighter you just saved.
- Board the ship, use the teleporter to enter the bridge, and speak with the captain of the freighter.
- The captain will offer you the freighter for free and you can either accept or even decline this offer if you don’t like the freighter.
- Note: Even if you do like the Freighter, it’s best to decline your first offer as you are guaranteed to get a better freighter once you find your next pirate attack.
- If you declined, wrap to different systems again until you hit a pirate attack Space Rescue mission once more and repeat the steps to get a free freighter in No Man’s Sky.
The effort to get a freighter is highly worth it as it will make your life so much more easier. Just keeping track of everything and having everything accessible no matter where you go is a savior. With a freighter in No Man’s Sky, you will now also be able to store multiple ships and even recruit a squadron of fighters to call in whenever you are in space combat.
