Metaphor: ReFantazio is the most awaited JRPG from the same creators who made Persona 3, 4, and 5. If you have been a fan of the Persona series, you will have a fun time playing Metaphor: ReFantazio as well. The game brings new features like Archetypes, as well as the inclusion of different endings. While most of the endings in the game signal a bad ending, there is one true and good ending that will take a while to unlock.

In this guide we will show you how to get all endings in Metaphor: Refantazio.

All Endings In Metaphor: ReFantazio Explained

There are a total of four endings in the game, and these endings start branching out from the 9/24 battle with Louis onwards. Anything that you do before that will not have any bearing on how the endings play out. From this point onwards, you have 3 ‘Bad Endings’; these are essentially incomplete endings where you do not take the story to its full conclusion. There is no trophy or achievement to unlock for any of these, you will just get 1 final trophy on unlocking the 1 ‘Good Ending’, or the ‘True Ending’.

While technically you can only unlock 1 ending per playthrough, you can reload your save just before the Louis battle in the game and see each ending. The game will give you enough alerts in time for you to be able to make that save game. Let’s see each of these endings and how they play out.

This is one of the earliest endings to unlock in the game after you meet Louis at the Throne Room at the very end of Skybound Avatar. While your companions will initially be surprised at this, they will eventually reluctantly agree that maybe is the right way ahead.

    Dialog Options to Pick:

    • I don’t ‘seek to destroy’.
    • You’re absolutely right.

If you choose to fight Louis by picking the option to do so, then you are on the path to get the next bad ending. On 9/24, you will be led to the Ancient Eldan Sanctum in Elda Village. Once you reach the Sanctum, you will find a slain Prince, and the prophecy has you pick up his place instead. You can choose to become the next Prince and ultimately get the role of the King, or choose to ignore it. If you pick the latter option, you unlock the second bad ending.

    Dialog Options to Pick:

    • It was all a mistake.
    • Lies dead before me.

Since Metaphor: Refantazio follows a calendar to symbolize various key events, you have to wait till you reach the end of the game to get the final bad ending. Once you are at 10/26, you will meet the final boss fight against Louis again. This takes place on Tyrant’s Star Louis, and there will come a time during the battle where you seem to almost lose the fight. But just before you hit rock bottom, you will be transported to the Akademia by More.

More will also inform you that your entire world is just a fabric of your imagination, and you can choose to believe him. If you do, you unlock the final bad ending of the game.

    Dialog options to pick:

    • You can do that?
    • I understand. You’re right.

Fantasy Lives On | True Ending In Metaphor: ReFantazio

To get the only good ending of the game, you have to make the opposite choices when presented with the options above. You have to fight Louis, accept being Prince, and ignore More. Then, defeat the boss during the final battle on 10/26. You will then follow Gallica back to Maria, and any dialog options to pick henceforth will give you a favorable response. Following all this will unlock the only True ending in the game, and you will also get the Coronation of the King trophy/achievement.

Before going for the end game, do check out whether you have unlocked all the archetypes Metaphor: ReFantazio has to offer. These archetypes bring different combat mechanics and almost all of them are worth trying out once to see which suits you the best.
