The story mode in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is one of the toughest we have seen, especially the bonus battles like the one where you fight Beerus called A Battle of Speed. As the name would suggest, speed is key in this fight because you need to defeat Beerus before he blasts you across the galaxy. So in this guide, I will show you how you can complete A Battle of Speed in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero by defeating Beerus in under 3 minutes.

How To Defeat Beerus and Complete A Battle of Speed in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero

The bonus mission called A Battle of Speed in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is one of the toughest missions in the game, not because Beerus itself is tough to fight against but because you only have a 30-second window to defeat him before he instakills you. However, you can reset this 30-second timer by dealing damage equivalent to 20% of his health, which means every 30 seconds you will need to take out at least 1.12 of Beerus’s health bars to complete A Battle of Speed and defeat Beerus.

At first, there seems to be no real indication of this timer or how much time is left which has left players confused as they randomly get pushed into oblivion by Beerus out of nowhere by his instakill attack, sometimes in 30 seconds, sometimes more because they unknowingly reset the timer without knowing what caused it. So let’s first understand how the timer works in A Battle of Speed mission in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero.

Understanding The Timer Mechanic For A Battle Of Speed

Dialogue indicating the amount of time passed

While there is no actual timer on screen that goes down, there is an indication of how much time you have left in A Battle of Speed mission. Every 10 seconds, Vegeta and Beerus will say specific dialogues that indicate the amount of time that has passed.

These are the dialogues for every 10-second interval:

    • At 10 seconds Beerus says: “(yawn) This is boring”
    • At 20 seconds Vegeta says: “Oh no… They’re getting bored!”
    • At 30 seconds Beerus says: “I’m bored. It’s time to end this!”

Keep in mind that at 30 seconds, you will still get a window of about 5 seconds where Beerus says his dialogue before initiating his Instakill attack so keep fighting if you are close to hitting the required damage to reset the 30-second timer.

    Strategy for Fighting Beerus

Now that you have understood the timer mechanic for the A Battle of Speed mission in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, it’s time for the real challenge of dealing enough damage in these 30 seconds to reset it.

Here are tips on how you can pace your fight and consistently do enough damage in 30 seconds to defeat Beerus:

    • The initial portion of this fight is the toughest because you won’t have any Skill points built up. As you manage you survive longer and longer, you will have some Skill points to work with. So if you manage to reset the timer and deal enough damage in the start, don’t lose hope if you make a few mistakes later as you will be able to recover if it isn’t too bad.
    • Transformations might look like an easy way to buff your damage output and make this fight easier but I would advise you to not use ANY transformations whatsoever. I found that in Super Saiyan, Vegeta’s moves may do more damage but it doesn’t do it fast enough to reset the timer. Super Saiyan God seemed good because I had Saiyan Spirit but I had no Sparking Skills. It is the same with Super Saiyan Blue but the damage output on this transformation can be good enough but still not as optimal as the base Vegeta himself.

    Beam Clash with Galick Gun
    • The key to this fight is using Vegeta’s Galick Gun and Final Flash, the latter of which is only usable by base Vegeta. As soon as the fight starts, be as aggressive as you can to build up your Skill bar, and accumulate your Skill points. Beerus will occasionally perform Ki blasts from a distance and you can use this as well to build up your Skill Bar by deflecting it.
    • Make sure to keep your Ki charged up and ready for when Beerus does his Sphere of Destruction move. As soon as Beerus initiates that, you need to initiate Galick Gun to counter it in a Beam Clash. If you manage to do this every time he does his Sphere of Destruction, you will consistently chip away at this health in record time.

    • As you near building up enough of your Skill bar to perform the Final Flash move, you need to hit Beerus with a medium combo that sends him flying either upwards if you are on the ground, or flying downwards if you are high up in the air. Once Beerus is stun-locked as he is flying off, initiate your Final Flash and you will get a guaranteed hit. Rinse and repeat this and you will complete A Battle of Speed in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero with only a few good tries.
