The main offensive force of any party, a Warrior is an essential member to have in all of your adventures of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D. The game allows you to either start off one (or more) of your party members as a Warrior or change into it later on in the story.
While choosing your party members’ vocations is mostly based on the kind of attacks you prefer, ones like the Warrior can make gameplay much easier. Besides the vocations, you’d also have to select suitable personalities and equipment to get the most out of each member. Here’s a guide on coming up with a DQ Warrior that can defeat any monster with ease.
Leveling Up To A Warrior
The key to building a strong Warrior is to start off with another vocation. Instead of choosing the Warrior at the beginning, go with either the Thief, the Martial Artist, or the Merchant vocation. Warrior’s disadvantage is that they don’t have much agility, which is why we can first go with Thief or other vocations and then make the switch to Warrior.
Thief To Martial Artist
Starting out as a Thief has many plus points. Your character will be able to gain agility at a much faster rate and each fight will give you double the amount of stuff that the Monster drops. Thieves are also exceptionally good at locating treasures at places, this can help you find mini-medals or hidden items.
A great attack that the Thief has under their sleeve is “Backdraft”. It reflects any enemy breath attack, helping you repel ice or fire breaths. Once you’ve achieved all the abilities of a Thief, you can go ahead and level up to a Martial Artist. Doing this will make you gain additional luck and agility. After your Martial Artist reaches level 47, you’ll be able to unlock the “Critical Claim” ability. This is a special attack that ensures a critical hit on the monsters each time.
Martial Artist To Thief To Monster Wrangler
If you’ve already started as a Martial Artist, switch to a Thief once you learn most of the abilities. It will still help you gain all of the advantages mentioned above. Stay as a Thief until you learn Backdraft and then go ahead and become a Monster Wrangler. If you become a Monster Wrangler and have recruited more than 50 monsters, you’ll be able to cast powerful spells like “Monster Pile-On”. This spell will allow you to damage enemies based on the number of monsters you’ve recruited.
Switching To Warrior
After you’ve learnt all spells as either a Thief or Monster Wrangler, it’s time to make the final switch to Warrior. As soon as you become one, give your character the “Tear Away” or the “Iron Clad” Personality. Tear Away will increase Strength and Agility at a faster pace while Ironclad will increase Resilience and Strength. You can also choose personalities like Paragon and Tough Cookie.
This series of vocation changes will make your party member stronger, even against those stubborn Liquid Metal Slimes. Once they’re a Warrior, they’ll be able to properly build the defense that they lacked as a Thief or Monster Wrangler. The best moves you can go for are the Monster Pile-On or the Sword Dance. Sword Dance will perform 4 attacks simultaneously, either on one monster or the whole group.
Best Equipment & Abilities
Besides the spells and personalities, the kind of weapon and equipment you give to the Warrior will also have an impact on each fight.
Using Rubiss’ Sword as an item would help you cast “Kazapple”, a spell that can do very high damage on the enemy. Coupled with the multiple hit spells, this will be a powerful attack. Another item that you should choose is “Destructiball”, which will inflict the monsters with high damage.
The armor of choice should be Blade Armor if you’ve chosen a male character, and Shimmering Dress if you’ve gone with a female. Having a Life Ring or Hero Bracelet will provide more strength and agility to your party member. You can always change the equipment, vocations, or personalities the way you like and still be able to enjoy the game.
Besides a strong Warrior, your party would also need some Mages or healers who can focus on healing the group while the Warriors are busy carrying the defense for the whole team.
