In the tough open world of Valheim, you will face various challenges and rewards as you explore the diverse biomes. You will also encounter various creatures and resources, one of the exciting aspects of the game is the “Lox” in the Plains biomes. These creatures are massive, hairy, and powerful beasts, they provide an exhilarating ride and also serve as loyal companions in your journey through the treacherous Plains biome. In this guide, we have put up all the details about taming a lox in Valheim as well as acquiring a lox saddle to ride it.
How To Tame A Lox In Valheim
To tame the Lox in Valheim first you need to trap them by first constructing a stone pen or a pit, and then either harpooning or leading them inside it. If you try to tame them when they are roaming freely, you risk being trampled.
After the lox is trapped in a place feed it by dropping Cloudberries, Flax, or Barley on the ground and then back away so it calms down and consumes it. All three of these plants can be found scattered across the Plains Biome but Barley and Flax are most often found at the Fuling Villages in the area. As they become tamed, yellow hearts will appear around them.
Approach the Lox carefully, get close to it and a percentage bar will appear showing its taming process. After the taming process is complete you can safely approach it and pet it.
If you do not have any means to trap it then you can sneak up to the lox, drop food, and then back up before they attack you.
How To Craft A Lox Saddle In Valheim
The Lox Saddle in Valheim can be crafted at the Workbench once you have the following resources in place:
- 10 * Leather Scraps
- 20 * Linen Thread
- 15 * Black Metal
However, for you to get Linen Thread; you need a Spinning Wheel; and to get Black Metal you need a Blast Furnace. These are constructed using the Artisan Table. The Artisan Table needs 2 Dragon Tears to craft. The Dragon Tears drop on defeating Moder – the fourth boss in the game.
How To Find Leather Scraps
When deer and boars are killed, leather scraps may fall off them. Deer are cautious and will flee if they perceive a threat, although they may appear to be the better choice. Even though boars are more dangerous and will attack those who approach too closely, but they are a better target in the early stages of the game.
How To Get Linen Thread
Linen Thread is made from Flax. Flax can be found in the Plain biomes. Once you have made your Spinning Wheel (20 * Fine Wood, 10 * Iron Nails, 5 * Leather Scraps), you can use 40 pieces of Flax to create 1 Linen Thread. The Spinning Wheel will automatically start making the thread and when it’s done it will produce the Linen Thread.
How To Get Black Metal
Black Metal is made from Black Metal Scrap. Black Metal Scraps are only available as a drop from Fulings, they cannot be extracted like other metals like Iron, Tin, and Copper from a natural source. Fulings are little goblin-like creatures, found in the Plains biome.
After collecting the Black Metal Scrap you will have to put it in the Blast Furnace(20 * Stone, 5 * Surtling Core, 10 * Iron, 20 * Fine Wood) along with Coal to produce Black Metal. To produce 1 Black Metal, you will require 2 Coals per piece of Black Metal Scrap.
How To Ride A Lox
After crafting the Lox saddle, place the saddle in the toolbar then approach the Lox, you’ll see a prompt to saddle and ride it. Use the right mouse button to turn and hold W to move forward. You will become more skilled at riding them, which will enhance your riding skills. Since a Lox cannot move in reverse, press the S key to stop it from moving. Before engaging an enemy, you must dismount. However, if you use the shift key, your Lox will charge forward, damaging anything on its path.
How To Breed Lox
Just bring two Lox close together and place food on the ground for them to eat. Breeding Lox is similar to breeding other Valheim creatures. They will give birth to a Lox calf once they have both eaten the meal and two love hearts have appeared.
And with that, you now have all the details on how to catch, tame and breed Lox as well as ride it with a Lox saddle.
