Valheim is an open-world game that will have you play as a Viking and has all the signature mechanics typical of the survival genre: base building, exploring the world to gather resources, and upgrading your character. One such gear that will significantly help you as you explore the brutal landscape in the game is the Carapace Armor set. This armor comes with high resistances and defence stats, and is especially useful when exploring the Mistlands biome. In this guide, we have put up all the details on how to craft the Carapace Armor in Valheim.
How To Craft The Carapace Armor In Valheim
You can craft the Carapace Armor set in Valheim once you have collected the following resources:
- Carapace: 55 pieces
- Scale Hides: 9 pieces

Additionally, you must have a Black Forge built along with its Black Forge Cooler upgrade to craft the armor.
Collecting Resources For Carapace Armor In Valheim
Carapace
You can collect Carapace by defeating Seeker enemies in the Mistlands biome. Seekers are large, insect-like creatures that can easily be found roaming the area.
Scale Hides
You get Scale Hides from Hares in the Mistlands. They can be elusive, so approach them quietly to avoid scaring them away.
Mandibles
Mandible drop on defeating Soldier Seekers, which are basically tougher variants of the Seekers. Like regular Seekers, they can be found in the Mistlands.
Iron
The next resource is Scrap Iron, which can be found in Sunken Crypts located in the Swamp biome. Remember to collect the Swamp Key by defeating the Elder Boss so that you can access these crypts. Once you have collected Scrap Iron, smelt it in a Furnace to create Iron Bars.
Refined Eitr
To produce Refined Eitr, combine Sap and Soft Tissue at an Eitr Refinery. Sap can be harvested from glowing Yggdrasil roots, while Soft Tissue can be obtained from the skulls of Petrified Bones.
How To Craft The Black Forge In Valheim

- Iron * 5
- Copper * 5
- Black Marble * 4
The Carapace Armor: Is It Worth It?
The armor provides a total value of 96, significantly higher than other sets like Padded Armor. It consists of three pieces: the Carapace Helmet, Carapace Breastplate, and Carapace Greaves. The armor provides good defence without the higher weight of other armor sets. While it does come with a slight movement speed penalty of 5% for both the breastplate and greaves, the extra armor protection makes the Carapace Armor fully worth it, and one of the best sets to equip while exploring Valheim.
