In Donkey Kong Bananza, you get to unlock a new companion called Pauline. But, the path to obtain this companion is long and winding, and you might have to spend a couple of hours in the game before you can get here. In particular, you can unlock her right after helping Kong Elder. But, there is a quick task at hand that you need to complete before doing so. This guide will show you how to help Kong Elder get the Ancient Record in Donkey Kong Bananza.
Donkey Kong Bananza: Play the Ancient Record Quest

While trying to Fix the Water Shortage at the Lagoon Layer, you will be taken to Kong Elder’s Court at Sub Layer 101. After destroying the second pillar that is holding up the plug to the water supply, jump down and walk up to the pedestal to speak to the Kong Elder. They will tell you about learning the Bananza, but it requires an Ancient Record. Your task here is to find and retrieve the record and place it at the Eterntable at the base of Kong Elder to complete the quest.
You will also be given a view of where the Ancient Record is located, but the bridge to reach it is way down below. You need to bring the water level up to pull up the bridge, and that will require destroying the third pillar and bring up the water. After doing so, the bridge will be in place, and you can cross it to pick up the giant record. Bring it back to Kong Elder and place the record near its feet to complete the quest.
Using Kong Bananza

There will be a short cutscene following the quest, where Pauline will emerge from the rock that has been accompanying you all this while. You will also unlock the Kong Bananza transformation, your first transformation in the game. There will be a quick tutorial on how you can use your new form.
Each time you press Y for a Strong Punch or hold and release Y for Charged Punch, you will use up some of your Bananza energy. There is a small meter besides Donkey Kong that you can keep an eye on to see how much energy you have left. To replenish it, collect Gold and hold L+R to transform back into Kong Bananza once your meter is full.
Using Pauline

Pauline can be controlled while in co-op only, so you will require a second person to play with you. You can change from single player to co-op by pressing the + button, then select the Co-Op Play from the menu. You can then pick a friend to play through either GameShare or from a local server. Pauline’s abilities include shooting blasts via her vocals, which she can also alter by copying materials around her. Pressing or holding down ZR will use her abilities while she is active.
