Constance is a beautiful Metroidvania that not only offers a wealth of unique areas to explore, but also fluid movement mechanics. The game also provides some of the most memorable bosses in recent Metroidvania memory, and I include Silksong in that conversation.
However, they aren’t just unique, they are also tough as nails. Tough I can deal with, but tough and obtuse is a major issue, and one that The Jester posed to be when I entered their circus tent.
It might seem like a game of chance, but it’s very easy to learn their attack patterns, and it’s also possible to consistently make them vulnerable to a beatdown.
Your question is likely, How the hell do I do that? Something that I am more than happy to answer How To Beat The Jester in Constance.
Where To Find The Jester In Constance

The Jester can be found in the Chaotic Carnival section of the map. To access this area, you will need to beat Brian and repair the elevator.
After this, starting from Janky Junction, you will need to use your Paint Spike power to get through an electrical wall just below the merchant area of Janky Junction to head out to the right of the map.
Continue on this path until you reach a room where you need to defeat a wave of enemies. Nothing too difficult here, but make sure you’re prepared for a fight.
Then, after briefly entering the Astral Academy portion of the map, head to the bottom of this screen, right, and then climb back up to head out the top left.
Then, after some platforming across floating rocks, you’ll make it to the Carousel spinning out of control, and the tent that plays host to The Jester.
How To Beat The Jester In Constance

The Jester is a bit of a gimmick boss where you don’t have control of which moves he will do in what order, but the good news is that they behave pretty predictably depending on what card you pull.
The process of the fight goes as follows. Pick a card that decides their attack. Dodge said attack. Then pick more cards until they are down to just one.
At this point, you’ll endure their third attack which features some electrified projectiles/cards, and you’ll need to take them out while dodging their attack.
After this, they will fall to the ground, and you can spam attacks until they take 50% damage. Which, as you might have gathered, means you need to down him twice to win this fight.
Here’s a rough guide of each attack you are up against:
Spades

This attack sees The Jester cast a slew of cards at you from all directions that hone in on your exact position. The key here is to anticipate their flight path and then duck or jump over them.
However, there will be moments where the cards are too tight-knit to avoid, which means you’ll need to use your Paint Dash ability and make use of those I-Frames to avoid them.
Diamonds

Diamonds lead to a sequence where the player will need to dodge rows of cards coming from left and right low to the ground.
The key here is to move with the cards to give yourself the most time to react, to time your jumps and dashes in the air to clear long rows of cards, and when trapped under a row above your head, your dash I-frames are super helpful.
Clubs

Clubs triggers an attack where there will be a long row of cards at the top of the screen, and they will slam to the ground in a variety of different patterns, doing their best Twomp impression.
There’s no real way to avoid getting pummeled without learning the attack pattern for this one, so use those first few tries to get an idea of how the cards fall, and generally speaking, try to stay as central as possible, as this tends to be the best starting position.
Hearts

This isn’t an attack, but it is worth mentioning. When you trigger the second-to-last card, you will get a small heal, which can make all the difference when trying to get through that second run of attacks.
Rewards For Defeating The Jester

The rewards for this boss will depend on which of the three bosses you are being directed to on the map you take on first. However, making the assumption that you went to take on The Jester first, you’ll get the following rewards:
- Dark Embrace Inspiration: While corrupted Paint Dive no longer hurts you, it hurts enemies when you dodge through them.
- 64x Glimmer
- 16x Crystals
