In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you have several areas to explore and meet new NPCs. Some of them will ask for your help in solving puzzles to either open up new areas or unlock new treasure. While exploring the Esoteric Ruins within The Continent, you will encounter a unique puzzle. This guide will explain how to complete the Esoteric Ruins maze puzzle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
How To Solve The Esoteric Ruins Maze Puzzle In Clair Obscur

To solve the Esoteric Ruins puzzle, you need to shoot the right torches to unlock the area ahead. You can find the Esoteric Ruins west of Old Lumiere. The exact location is marked on the map above. Just step into the portal here, and you will be transported to the ruins. This is an optional area, so you can come back here anytime during the game to solve the puzzle. The puzzle itself is pretty simple to solve, but first you need to talk to a floating blue orb found near the entrance.
After talking to the orb, head up the wall then jump down to reach the puzzle area. You will notice several torches within the puzzle area. Some of the entrances to the maze are blocked by a barrier, and each time you shoot a torch, it will spew out rays that can hit the barrier and unblock the entrance.

To solve the puzzle, follow the steps below:
- Shoot the first torch at the entrance, then go left and shoot the torch there.
- Go to the next area and head right, making your way to the end of the passage.
- Turn around once you reach the end and shoot the torch in the middle room, then head left and left again.
- On your right will be the exit, so you can get out of the maze to continue the rest of the quest.
Pick up the Color of Lumina near the exit, and the Wood Boards quest item required by the blue orb. To leave the maze puzzle area, there is a grapple point on the western section that can help you get out. Hand over the quest item to the blue orb to receive a new Pictos called Protecting Heal, which offers Shell for 1 turn while having an ally healed.
