In Avowed, you are not limited to the weapons that you can use in the game, and there are some pretty impressive guns that can deal very high damage. If you are trying to perfect your build with using guns as your primary weapon, then you would want to take a look at the best abilities and skills required for such a build as well. This guide will cover how to build the best gun build in Avowed.
Best Gun Build Guide In Avowed
So you have decided to pick up a gun instead of going for swords, axes, or other weapons. Guns are a great pick as they deal high damage, but come at the cost of alerting all nearby enemies. Nevertheless, gun builds can increase your chances of survival against higher level enemies, but you need to perfect your build before getting out there.
Best Stats To Upgrade First

- Dexterity
- Perception and/or Might
- Resolve
- Constitution
- Intellect
The main point of having a gun build is that your reflexes will be super slow. This can affect your rate of fire, reload speed, and weapon switching speed. Hence that is why you need to focus on Dexterity to increase your Attack and Action speed first. The higher you level up Dexterity, the faster you can reload and increase the rate of fire. Following that, you can put the remaining skill points into either Perception or Might, as both are equally important. Might can increase damage output, while Perception focuses on increasing max range and Critical Hit Chance.
With these three attributes out of the way, you can then work on allocating your points into Resolve or Constitution, depending on whether you want to increase your max stamina or max health. We won’t get into leveling up our Intellect, since we are not going for a mage gun built here. But you can apply some points to increase your max essence if this is the build you are going for.
Best Gun Build Abilities For Early Game

- Survivalist
- Marksmanship
- Steady Aim
- Arcane Veil
- Constant Recovery
- Toughness
Most of the abilities that you unlock under the Ranger skill tree can help your gun build by making it more efficient. Since you won’t have a shield with your build to protect you, you need to increase your max health and generate healing with Survivalist, Toughness, and Constant Recovery. If you want to, you can add a point to Arcane Veil and use a Grimoire with your gun to grant you a shield for a few seconds. Steady Aim and Marksmanship are great picks to increase damage output of your gun and also slow down time while aiming.
Best Gun Build Abilities For Late Game
- Sniper
- Critical Strike
- Quick Switch
- Staggering Shot
- Retribution
- Inspiring Triumph/ Flurry of Blows
Your next step is to unlock the remaining passives under the Ranger skill tree and mix it up with a bit from the Fighter skill tree. Sniper and Critical Strike helps increase damage and the Critical Hit Rate. Quick Switch can increase the speed at which you can swap weapons. Staggering Shot can inflict stun when enemies are hit with bullets. Retribution increases the damage output if you have received damage, while Inspiring Triumph helps restore the health of your companions. You can switch up Inspiring Triumph with Flurry of Blows to increase Attack Speed, stamina regeneration, as well as movement speed.
Best Weapons

Pistols and Arquebuses are going to be your primary weapons, and you can place them in slot 1 and slot 2 or just use one gun in slot 1 and place a bow or Grimoire in slot 2. Since most of our abilities can be used on guns and bows, you can utilize both these weapons in your builds, or go for a Grimoire if you wish to use spells instead. You can also make use of dual pistols in the game, and the best ones to go for are Caeroc’s Pride, Fair Play, and Magic Mistol.
Arquebuses are more of a mid to late game weapon, so if you can find One Last Trick or Moonstrike, you can use those as part of your build. As for bows, The Long Touch, Ancient Alacrity, and Storm-Sworn all have pretty good stats and are fairly decent to use. If you are still planning on using a Grimoire, any early-game Grimoire will work well here.
Best Armor
The Blackwing Armor is a well-rounded armor set that increases movement speed while crouching. You can complete the set with gloves and boots of the same kind to increase your dexterity and critical hit chance. Later in the game, if you have saved the refugees, you can claim the Grand Empire light armor.
This increases your reload speed and also offers damage reduction, and this armor can be paired up with Tranton Family Greaves for increased health, move speed, and dodge distance. Follow that up with the Wolf Gloves for increased Critical Hit Chance and Dexterity.
