In Ghost of Yotei, you will find 30 Ainu items scattered in its world. Getting them will help you upgrade the Robes for Sitturaynu armor. All Ainu items can be obtained even after you complete the storyline. In this guide, we have detailed the location for each of the 30 Ainu items in Ghost of Yotei. These locations have been put region-wise to make it easier for you to check the missing ones from your collection.
All Ainu Locations in Yotei Grasslands
#1. Ainu Location
Head to Bamboo Thicket, located northwest of Southern Coast, south of Tranquil Falls.
From here, slide down the slope to make your way to the Southern Coast. You will arrive at the western section of the Southern Coast. Now head over to the waterfall near the coast, and you will find an Ainu item under the rocks.
#2. Ainu Location
Make your way into the middle of Lake Kuttara, east of Tranquil Falls.
On a small island in the middle of the lake, you will find the Ainu locked on the rocks.
#3. Ainu Location
Quest Detail: A Drink with a Stranger Side Quest
This one can be found at the Ainu Askur Trader at the Southern Coast section of the map. Here, you will come across an NPC; interacting with him will start the A Drink with a Stranger side quest. Skip the cutscene, head down the cliff, and perform the platforming challenges to move to the other side of the cliff. You will find the Ainu item at the end.
#4. Ainu Location
This one will take you west of Windy Meadow.
Make your way west of the Windy Meadow until you reach the border of the area. Here you will come across an Ainu sitting on a rock near a camp.
#5. Ainu Location
Get to the northwest of Riverfront Hideout, Sarubetsu River.
Here, between two large plant bushes, you will find several bamboo sticks blocking your path. Cut open the bamboo trees to get inside, and you will find the Ainu on your left next to a small hut.
#6. Ainu Location
Get to the Nupur River north of the map, west of Maw of the Serpent.
Here, under a tree, you will find a spot with fish carvings. After examining the fish carvings, you automatically pick up the wood carving of the Ainu. Head to the menu, and you will find the item called Item of Ainu Craft in your inventory under the Quest Item tag.
#7. Ainu Location
Head northeast of Crow’s Nest Watchtower, north of Nupur River.
When you start heading north of the Nupur River, you will eventually come across a waterfall at a distance. Here you will find the Ainu lying next to the trees, on the left side of the waterfall.
All Ainu Locations in Ishikari Plains
#8. Ainu Location
Head east of Otaru Hills, south of Matsumae Outpost.
Here, climb up the ledges to get to the top, and you will find the Ainu itoem sitting on a log near the cliff.
#9. Ainu Location
Get to the H section of Howling Cove on the map.
Once you reach the spot, you will find a single burned-down house. Next to the house’s remains, you will find the eight Ainu in the game.
#10. Ainu Location
Head south of Nakagoya Spring, north of Horokanai Bluffs.
Once you get to the location, get to the area left of the waterfalls, and you will find the Ainu next to a climbable wall on the rocks.
#11. Ainu Location
Head west of the Rumoi River, the northwest section of the map.
Right on the edge of the border, west of the Rumoi River. Climb up the hill until you reach the end of the cliff. Here you will find the Ainu lying on the ground.
All Ainu Locations in the Tokachi Range
#12. Ainu Location
Make your way to Prospector’s Camp, located east of Serpent’s Pass.
In the field filled with white flowers, you will find the Ainu near the rocks with other objects.
#13. Ainu Location
Now head to Bamboo Rock at Ishiusu Basin, west of Yamane Bluffs.
Here you will find the Ainu on the rocks next to a single, large bamboo stick lying on the ground.
#14. Ainu Location
This one is going to take us a bit northwest of Yamane Bluffs.
Once you get to the location, you will meet an NPC named Ainu. He will ask you to hold the deer as he tries to deal with the body. Once he finishes his hunting story, you will get an Ainu at the end.
#15. Ainu Location
This Ainu is located at the “I” letter of Shizunai Woods on the map. Once you are in the spot, get up the hill, cross the small wooden bridge, and you will find Ainu located at the end.
#16. Ainu Location
Head east of Moiwa Grotto, and you will find a small hut with a large tree by its side. Head inside, and you will find the Ainu next to the doorway.
#17. Ainu Location
This one is located at the “V” letter of Boar’s Eye Cave, north of the map.
Here in the location, you will find a lone tree in the middle of the rocky meadows. Right on the tree, you will get the option to examine the Ainu item.
#18. Ainu Location
Requirement: The Soul of an Instrument Side Quest
Get to the Ainu Musician’s Camp located at the Yubari Lake, west of the Tokachi Range. Here, when you get to the camp, a cutscene will trigger with an Ainu NPC. This will kick off the The Soul of an Instrument sidequest. Completing the side quest will help you obtain the Ainu item.
All Ainu Locations in the Nayoro Wilds
#19. Ainu Location
Here, make your way to the Nayoro Falls, on the east side of the region. You will find the Ainu item near the rocks, just a few meters away from the letter “S” on Nayoro Falls.
#20. Ainu Location
Requirements: Only after or in the middle of The Legend of Opusnupuri Mythic Quest. Here, you need to find a storyteller found at Husko Kotan under a big tree.
Head southwest of Cukpet Hills, and get to the Peaceful Kotan Sumi-E painting location. Here, make your way uphill, filled with white flowers. Soon, you will find a grappling point on a tree branch protruding from the rocks on the left.
Use the grappling hook to launch across the gap to get to the other side. Here, use the climbable rocks to get to the upper region. Now turn right, squeeze through the narrow hole between two rocks to make it to the other side. Now jump across the gap and use the climbable wall to get up the cliff.
Turn left, jump, and use the grappling hook to pull yourself to the top. At the corner, you will find an Ainu item.
#21. Ainu Location
This Ainu item is located under the Nupur River. Get close to the south of the Nupur River, and you will find the Ainu item near the water, hiding among the sticks.
All Ainu Locations in the Teshio Ridge
#22. Ainu Location
Head to Sakuru Woods, more specifically, the “W” letter of Woods in Sakuru Woods. Once you get to the spot, head up the cliff next to the grappling hook point. Next to it, you will find the Ainu item lying on the ground.
#23. Ainu Location
This one will take us south of Sarobetsu Lake. Here, amongst the red trees, you will find the Ainu next to the fallen cauldron in the camp.
#24. Ainu Location
Head northwest of Crimson Forest, and you will find the Ainu item next to the rocks in a deserted bonfire.
#25. Ainu Location
Head to the Sarufutsu Lighthouse located south of Shipwreck Shoal.
Head inside the Sarufutsu Lighthouse, and you will find a locked room with two empty altars on both sides of the door. We need to put a fox statue on the empty altars to open the locked door.
If you look to the left and right sides of the room, you will find four fox statues sitting on their shrine (Two on the left and two on the right). Between the two fox statues, on both the left and right sides of the room, you will see a smaller version of the fox statue on a shrine in the middle. We can take out the fox statue from the small shrine and place them on the empty altars next to the door. But we can’t take it right away; we must finish the puzzle first.
Each fox statue sitting on the shrines on both sides of the room will have a Nine Tail symbol written at the bottom of its respective altar. Here, you must translate and convert each Nine-Tail symbol into proper directional input to open the lock in the room.
The square within a square will translate to Left, and the second symbol, a circle with a line on the top, translates to Right. So move the fox statue with a square within a square symbol to the Left direction. And rotate the fox statue with a circle with a line on the top to a Right angle to unlock the small fox statue shrines in the middle of the normal-sized fox statue shrines.
Now take both fox statues from the smaller shrines and place them on the empty altar next to the door to unlock it. It will take you to the Hunting Camp Hideout. The route here is linear but filled with platforming challenges. Just keep doing all the platforming to reach the hideout. Enter the house on the right next to the tower, and you will find the Ainu inside.
#26. Ainu Location
Go to Cape Inari Shrine, located north of the Sarufutsu River, on the edge of the Teshio Ridge map.
Here you will find a locked door with a fox altar. Here, you need to light up two fox statues hidden inside the caves to open the door. Both of the locations are hidden inside the cave; luckily for us, the caves at the entrance will have blue glowing Nine-Tailed fox markers.
First Statue Location: A bit to the right of the locked door, you will find a small crack in the rocks that you squeeze through to get inside. Once you are in the cave, grab the torch on the right and light up the fox statue shrine in the cave. With the statue lit up, head outside using the same crack in the rocks.
Second Statue Location: Once you get out of the cave from the first statue, keep going straight to the torch flame at a distance. Here you will find another crack in the rocks that you can go through, and inside, you will find another fox statue shrine. Light the second shrine, and now make your way to the locked door.
Head inside the unlocked door, and you will find another Nine Tails puzzle section. This one is simple; just grab the torch and head inside the building on the left. You will find a fox statue shrine with the Nine Tail symbol for Engage written on it. Light up the fox shrine in the room and now get out, and near the cliff to the left, you will find another fox statue shrine carrying the same Nine Tail symbol for Engage. Light the second one, and a wire will shoot out of the rocks on the left, creating a bridge or path to the platform at a distance.
Get on the rope to get to the platform at a distance, now jump on the wooden platform and grab onto the climbable rocks to get to the upper region. Once you are on the upper floor, you will arrive at the Cape Inari Hideout, where you will get to the building near the coast. The building will be in an open space with plenty of wooden objects, such as logs, in the area. Head inside the building, and you will find the Ainu item on the left of the table.
All Ainu Locations in the Oshima Coast
#27. Ainu Location
Head to Miyama Village, Tokuyama Hills, in the middle of Oshima Coast. Here, take the stairs next to the pink sakura trees and get to the hut at a distance. Inside the hut, you will find an Ainu item.
#28. Ainu Location
Now get ot the Saito Artillery Outpost, north of Shojin Hills, just northeast of Oyobe River. Here you will find the Ainu located next to the watch tower in the outpost.
#29. Ainu Location
Here, make your way to the Hakodate Shore, south of Shojin Hills, and west of Esan Inlet. Now, get to the “E” letter on the Hakodate Shore on the map. Here you will find the axe stuck to a tree stump. You will find the Ainu item in that location.
#30. Ainu Location
This one will take you to the Orito Forest, north of the Otsuki River, east of the map. Here, you will find a rundown camp. Next to the bonfire, you will find the Ainu item.
What Are Ainu Items Used For In Ghost of Yotei?
Ainu Items help upgrade the Robes for Sitturaynu up to level 3. These robes spawn a golden bird that helps you find other collectibles:
- A Level 2 upgrade requires 5 Ainu Items, and highlights Altars of Reflection and Ainu items within a 100m distance
- A Level 3 upgrade requires an additional 10 Ainu Items and highlights Dye Merchants, Pillars of the Fallen, Shamisen songs, and Sumi-e Painting locations.
- A Level 4 upgrade requires an additional 15 Ainu items and automatically collects Flowers when passing them by.
