Torrez is a Fire Mage in Gothic Remake who is not only a quest-giver NPC, but he’s also a character who can help train you to become a mage yourself. So if you’re hoping to craft a wizard build in Gothic, Torrez is the one you’ll need to find early in your adventure.
Below, we’ll reveal exactly where Torrez hangs out so you can find him quickly. We’ll also reveal everything else we know about this NPC and the quests he provides.

Torrez location in the Gothic Remake
Torrez can usually be found to the right of the campfire in the Old Camp, not far from the market region. This is the place where diggers and guards gather at night to sing songs and be merry.
Torrez is often around twenty feet away from the camp, beneath the slope, standing on his own, casting spells. He’s easily identifiable due to his flowing robes, marking him as a mage.

Can Torrez get you inside the castle?
Unfortunately no. As a Fire Mage, sharp players may identify Torrez as a figure who can get them inside the castle to deliver their letter, but sadly, Torrez doesn’t have that influence.
He will encourage you to get inside the castle by impressing Thorus and ingratiating yourself with the Shadows.

Torrez role in Gothic Remake
As a Fire Mage, Torrez will be an important NPC later in the game, especially when you start building an alliance between his guild and the Water Mages of the New Camp towards the end of the game.
But while you’re completing quests and exploring the old camp, he’ll offer to train you to be a mage if you can complete a fetch quest for him. Torrez will require you to find him some parchment and two wolf claws.
If you can do this, he’ll help you on your journey to becoming a mage, recognising great potential in the Hero. Torrez is also a vendor and sells runes, spell scrolls, potions, books about magic, and can train the player in magic usage. So he’s a useful NPC for those who want to play as a wizard build, but he can be largely ignored by those who want a more melee focused character.
Torrez is also a friendly sort, offering words of encouragement to the player, seeing their value, and standing with them during key story moments – such as when the player wants to build bridges between both camps and have the Fire and Water Mages help plan an escape from the colony.

Torrez fate in Gothic
*Spoilers below*
Towards the end of the game, the mine of the Old Camp collapses, forcing Gomez, its ruler, to invade the New Camp and seize control of their mine to maintain his power in the colony and his relationship with the king.
Gomez and his goons come across the Fire Mages of the Old Camp cooperating with the Water Mages of the New Camp. When the Fire Mages protest against Gomez for his actions, as he risks putting the escape plan in jeopardy, Gomez responds by killing most of the Fire Mages.
This, unfortunately, also includes Torrez, should the NPC still be alive in the story.
