Nexon Games’ latest update in The First Descendant brings exciting new characters and events to the game. There’s also a new boss, The Defiler, who cannot be defeated with simple strategies. With his powerful attacks and abilities, Defiler can easily bring you down in a couple of minutes. Here’s a guide to conquering the Defiler and getting tons of rewards in the end.
The First Descendant: Defiler Boss Fight Guide
To unlock the battle with The Defiler, you must be higher than or equal to Mastery Rank 18. Besides this, you also have to complete the Most Powerful Colossus quest to begin the fight.
What makes fighting Defiler so hard is his unique attacks. He can spit out a dark mist that greatly reduces your health if you step into it. He can also rain down pillars on you during the fight, especially when he is low on HP.
The Defiler can use Abyss Symbiont to regain its health during the attacks. He is weak to electrocution/electric abilities. Keep an eye out for the Void Reflux Mode, as this is where the Defiler will charge into you and hit you with a heavy attack.
Preparing for The Defiler Boss Fight
While the game recommends you defeat this boss along with 2 players or more, you can also easily complete it Solo. Characters like Ult Sharen, Ult Bunny, Ult Valby, or the newly added Ines, can kill the Defiler even if alone. Valby’s bubble attacks and Sharen’s Flash Shortsword are effective in quickly bringing down Defiler’s health.
Choose a weapon that can do continuous damage, like the Peace Maker. You can also have Executor, Thundercage, or any other similar weapon. Have the Slayer set on, as it can increase the efficiency of your attacks. Some good modules to have for this Intercept battle are:

Tips for The Defiler Boss Fight
Once you’ve prepared for the battle, you can intercept the Defiler. Hide behind a pillar in the beginning and try to hit as many times as you can once he lands.
- You can go around the Defiler in circles while shooting him, then come closer when he falls to his knees.
- Try to stay very mobile throughout the whole fight. Since the Defiler will be launching mist and pillars at the place you’ll be standing, it’s better to keep moving around and dodging all of these toxic attacks. Use the double jump or the grappling hook to move between places faster.
- If you see a green circle around you, quickly move to a different area. It happens when the Defiler is launching one of his attacks on you.
- Attacking the Defiler from behind his back is another good way to continuously attack him while also buying some time to run away when he turns back.
- If you are playing solo, it’s best to keep hitting the Defiler continuously whenever possible. The closer you are to the Defiler, the stronger your weapon’s damage will be. While running around, you can use abilities like Ult Sharen’s Flash Shortsword to deal tons of damage from a distance.
