With the ever expanding world of Throne and Liberty, you will find new features added to the game with each update. Upgrading your character is not the only thing you should focus on, you should also check in on the attributes supplied by your gear and equipment. While your weapons and armor come equipped with base stats, you would not be fully perfecting the build if you don’t utilize Traits. These add nuances like Magic Regen, Debuff Duration, Health Regen, Max Health and so on to round up that perfect character for end game.
In this guide we have put up everything there is to know on how to unlock and upgrade Traits in Throne And Liberty.
How To Unlock Traits In Throne And Liberty
You unlock Traits in Throne & Liberty either by adding Traits from duplicate gear, using Trait Conversion Stones, using Trait Unlock Stones or Extracting Traits. Each of these has it’s own advantages and disadvantages, let’s take them one by one.
Add Traits From Duplicate Gear
To unlock a Trait slot on a piece of gear, you have to first get the exact same piece of gear which has that particular Trait unlocked. So, in the above case, a Duskblood Trouser will need another Duskblood Trouser with the trait unlocked: any other Legs Armor will not work. Once that is sorted, go to Equipment Enchanting -> Traits and select the gear you want to unlock a Trait on. Then, on the right side, you will see whichever same pieces of gear you have. Select the one whose Trait you want to be transferred onto your equipped gear, and click on Enchant.
Your duplicate gear will be destroyed, but your preferred gear will get the trait. You can place different traits on one piece of gear as long as you have the same type of gear with varying traits. Also remember, both gear pieces have to be of the same rarity tier to successfully unlock Traits.
You can always go to the Auction House, and apply all the filters to select the right gear type, and the one with the preferred Trait and rarity level which you want to be applied onto your equipment.
Use Trait Conversion Stones
You can use 20 Trait Conversion Stones in the Equipment Enhancing menu to change an existing trait into a random Trait. This obviously is something where you do not have control over the exact Trait that you inherit, this is more like trusting your luck to land a real winner. This can be useful if the current set of gear that you have does not have any great Trait, and you are looking to get it replaced for sure by something better.
You get Trait Conversion Stones by participating in Secret Dungeons, Dynamic Events, and Mystic Globes and Portals. If you are lucky, you can also find these stones on sale in the in-game shop, or get them from Guild Merchants. The Battle Pass might also give you a certain amount of Trait Conversion Stones when you reach certain milestones.
Use Trait Unlockstones
The process here is similar to the Trait Conversion Stone, but you don’t have to worry about unlocking a random Trait. This is a better option to unlock new Traits, as not only is it cheaper, but you can also select which Trait you wish to unlock. You can collect Trait Unlockstones by participating in Mystic Portals and Mystic Globes. You might also get them from the Weekly Missions and completing Codex quests.
Extract Traits
You can Extract Traits from a piece of gear, store them in Trait Extraction Stones, and then apply these to your preferred gear. The catch is that the gear on which you are applying the Trait has to be the exact same gear from which you extracted the Trait.
You can collect Trait Extract Stones by completing Codex quests and unlocking Guild Treasure Chests. You can also buy these from the Auction House, and also sell your Trait Extract Stones to other users who maybe looking for a Trait Extract that matches the gear they want to put the Trait on.
How To Upgrade Traits In Throne And Liberty
To upgrade a trait, you need to get the same trait on the same gear type to fuze them together with your existing gear. In the above image e.g.; the Magic Endurance of 40 and Trait Tier 1, can be upgraded to Magic Endurance of 80 and Trait Tear 2 by using the same Duskblood Trouser gear for both: gear FROM which the trait is being taken, and TO which the trait is being applied.
The gear you wish to use for the upgrade process can be any gear, as long as it falls under the same type: so, a Legs Armor piece has to be selected to upgrade a Trait of another Leg Armor piece, a Head Armor piece to upgrade a Trait of another Head Armor piece, and so on.
If the gear that you selected happens to have the same rarity and Trait type as your preferred gear, you will increase the chances of successfully upgrading the Trait. This % will be visible left below the gear piece being upgraded as ‘Enchant Trait’. If an upgrade fails, you will instead earn Blessings and fill up the Blessing Bar. This, in turn, will help you get a guaranteed upgrade if the Blessing Bar is full.
Another key item that you should not ignore as you approach end-game in Throne and Liberty are Dimensional Soul Shards. They, in fact also can be used to get Trait Unlockstones among other things. Check out our guide on this topic to learn everything about them.
