The King is Watching has officially launched on Steam after a successful demo run. Its a kingdom builder game that requires plenty of strategic planning. That being said, however, certain core mechanics in the game aren’t very clearly explained, and moving and demolishing buildings is one of them.
Keeping that in mind, this article will provide a complete guide on how to move and demolish buildings in The King is Watching.
How to Move Buildings in The King is Watching

To move a building, hold Shift and then left-click on the building tile that’s placed in your castle area. If you do it correctly, your cursor will change to a grab icon, indicating that you can now reposition the tile.
Moving and repositioning buildings is not just for aesthetics; it plays an important role in maximizing production and resource generation.
The King’s gaze is an in-game mechanic wherein certain buildings only produce resources when in his line of sight. If your layout is poorly planned or doesn’t adapt to the changing direction of vision, your economy and strategy may fall behind.
You’ll need to move buildings around to:
- Pair up compatible buildings for boosted production.
- Make room for more advanced structures.
- Ensure that important buildings stay within the King’s field of vision.

How to Demolish Buildings in The King is Watching

To delete a building, click on the small (-) icon located on the left side of the King’s screen. This activates delete mode and changes your cursor. You can then click on any building tile in your castle to remove it. However, be very careful as deletion is instant and irreversible for that run.
There is no keyboard shortcut for deleting. The [-] icon is the only method available in-game, and it’s designed this way to reduce accidental deletions. If you enter delete mode by mistake or change your mind, you can cancel it by right-clicking outside your vision area. This will deactivate delete mode immediately.
Having no space is not the only reason why you may need to demolish a building. Here are some other reasons why you may want to delete one of your buildings in The King is Watching:
- Upgrading resource generation: Once you unlock the Gold Mine, your early Market may no longer be necessary.
- Switching military units: If you’re training Dragons instead of Militia, the Militia Camp becomes useless.
- Optimizing food production: After transitioning from Wheat Fields to Flour production, the old fields can be removed.
- Clearing visual obstructions: Some buildings might block vision rotation or reduce the effectiveness of your layout, especially if you’re trying to align with the King’s gaze.
- Discarding early spells or one-time use buildings: Once you’re done casting or using them, they’re just taking up space.
