The King Is Watching lets players manage their own kingdom, troops, and spells while also tackling waves of enemies. The full version of the game introduces a powerful feature known as the Royal Council. This system lets players customize their starting strategy, providing more control over how each reign begins and evolves.

By selecting a set of Advisors before each run, players can gain major bonuses that significantly shape their playstyle and performance.

This article will provide a complete guide on how to unlock and use the Council in The King is Watching.

The Royal Council is only available in the full version of The King Is Watching. If you’re playing the demo, you won’t see the Council feature. Once you’ve purchased the full game, the Council screen will appear before each new run. This is where you’ll be able to pick your Advisors.

You can choose from a total of 21 Advisors. From these available options, you will be able to choose up to 8 Advisors and activate them for your next run. Once you’ve chosen them, these Advisors will stay active for the entire run and will offer constant benefits from start to finish.

How does the Council system work?

When you get the full version of The King is Watching, the passive traits system is replaced by the Council. So instead of getting random bonuses, you choose your setup before the run starts.

Each Advisor changes how your kingdom plays. During the run, they have influence over what you see and how things operate. Advisors may affect your kingdom in the following ways:

    • They can have an effect on which units, buildings, and blueprints appear during your run
    • How much income you get or how much buildings cost
    • How many spell slots or artifacts you have access to
    • They can have an impact on the army size, production speed, and resource gain

Some Advisors help you get a strong start. Others are better for late-game scaling. Before you pick Advisors, think about what kind of build you want to go for in your kingdom.

    • If you want to go for Forges and Gold Mines, pick the Advisors that boost production or lower costs
    • If you want to focus more on spells, choose ones with extra spell slots or magic support

While the Council offers 21 different Advisors, a few stand out as strong starting choices, especially for players looking to survive higher difficulty settings or tougher waves. Here are some popular and effective picks:

    • Gustav: Increases building output by 5%. Ideal for builds centered on forging or economy.
    • Phoenix: Revives 7% of fallen troops. Useful for sustaining large frontline armies.
    • Unicorn: Grants 3 extra spell slots. Perfect for magic-heavy strategies that rely on spells like Freeze, Necromancy, or Meteorite.
    • Golem: Reduces all building costs by 10%. Helps players rush through early infrastructure upgrades.
    • Felix the Cat: Provides a random artifact at the start of your run. This can lead to a quick early-game power spike.

These Advisors offer a strong foundation, allowing you to build faster, recover troops, or access powerful spells early on.
