The 0.3.0 patch brings a huge overhaul to Path of Exile 2. Many systems have received a fair share of work and improvements. Since many of the skills and Ascendancy classes have received a buff in one form or the other, now it’s a perfect time to set up a new build based on the changes with the new update. The article will go into detail to create a Blood Mage build for Path of Exile 2.
Build Guide For Blood Mage In Path Of Exile 2

The 0.3 patch notes have a huge increase in the damage buffs for Arc, along with many other changes. The build guide will revolve around the changes. Here, we are going to touch upon almost every aspect of the build and what is possible with the Blood Mage.
- Skills & Support Gems
- Passive Skill Tree
- Ascendancy Details
- Gear Details
- Skill Rotation
Skills & Support Gems

First, we are going to focus on the crucial part of the guide, the Skill Gems. Most of the time, the build will focus on using Arc to deal a good amount of damage to wipe out the arena. But when facing tougher bosses, you might have to use other skills to take them out.
- Arc: The Arc is a projectile now and can chain up to 5 to 6 enemies. Shocked enemies will release a damaging pulse.
- Support Gems: Arcane Tempo, Lightning Penetration, Inspiration.
Inspiration will lower the cost of the spell, while Arcane Tempo increases cast speed, and Lightning Penetration will allow for lightning resistance.
- Orb of Storms: Create an orb that fires chain lightning bolts to enemies.
- Support Gems: Lightning Penetration, Lightning Mastery, Overbundance.
The highlight here is Overbundance, as it adds +1 to the limit, making 2 Orb of Storms. Lightning Mastery adds one more level to the lightning skills, and Lightning Penetration adds resistance to lightning.
- Blasphemy: Converts socketed curse skills into vile aura.
- Support Gem: Enfeeble.
Allows curse on all targets in the area, making them deal less damage.
- Cast on Critical: Critical hits help gain energy; reaching max energy will use the socketed spell.
The job of Cast on Critical is to boost the critical hits and help us deliver even more damage to the enemies.
When you are at level 1, consider using Spark instead of Arc and then Orb of Storms, Flame Wall, and Arctic Armour. Once you level up beyond Level 15, you can replace Spark with Arc to do the damage delivery and change the Flame wall with Blashphemy.
Passive Skill Tree
While we don’t have access to the passive skill tree list, here are some of the stats that you need to keep in mind when you are adding passives for the build. The focal point of passives here will be on: lightning damage, spell damage, cost speed, spell critical chance & damage, and energy shield. Since the Arc and Orb of Strom will deliver chain lightning damage, bending the passives toward the lightning direction will deliver great help in increased damage against enemies.
Ascendancy Details For Blood Mage Build
Blood Mage: The critical damage and HP buff from the Blood Mage Ascendancy class will help our overall build function a lot better, as it will strengthen our core skill, Arc. You will get the Life and Sanguimancy nodes for free. Here you can get Vitality Siphon, which allows 10% spell damage. Leeched as life. ON the left tree of Blood Mage, focus on the Gore Spike and Sunder the Flesh. On the right side, focus on Grasping Wounds and later Crimson Power.
Crimson Power is the highlight as it allows you to gain additional maximum life equal to 100% of the energy shield in the body armor, so you can already guess what kind of armor will perfectly fit into this build. Gore Spike will help us deal 1% critical damage bonus per 50 life (Used to be 40). And lastly, Sunder the Flesh will boost the base critical hit chance for psells by 15%.
Gear Details for Blood Mage Build

- Weapon: Choose a wand or staff for the weapon. Put maximum emphasis on spell and lightning damage, cast speed, and level to lightning skill.
- Body Armor: Here, focus on a high-energy shield because of Crimson Power in our Blood Mage Ascendancy. You can also focus on mana and life resistances and armor.
- Boots: When it comes to the boots, concentrate on moving speed. Other effects, such as life and mana resistances, should also be considered.
- Rings: Focus on the ring that can increase your life and resistance. And also focus on the casting speed of the spell.
- Belt: The Same goes for the belt as well; pick the belt that offers life and resistances.
- Helmet: Pick the helmet that offers good armor, energy shield, and energy shield resistances.
- Gloves: Here, also consider getting gloves that can offer life resistance and good armor.
Skill Use for Blood Mage Build
Arc> Orb of Storms> Cast on Critical
The new patch has made Arc a projectile-focused attack that can chain 6 to 9 times and now has 50% more shock magnitude. Adding lightning infusion to the chain even more times and dealing more damage. Suffice to say, Arc will be the best skill (Spammable) to use for the build. Another skill that got a fair share of boost is Orb of Storms; now it can trigger from casting any spell and deals even more damage than before. Arc will take care of most enemies, and you have to use the Orb of Storms to face the bosses or any single strong enemy in the game.
The new Path of Exile 2 patch changes to the Blood Mage and tweaks to Arc have created and will create many possibilities in creating tougher builds in the game. Once the changes roll out to the game, we will see how these patch changes will fare with the armor and against the enemies in the game.
