After much waiting, a new Donkey Kong game, “Donkey Kong Bananza” will be hitting Nintendo Switch 2 this July. The game will be a 3D platformer action game carrying the magic of its predecessor, bringing them into a third-person view. The trailer revealed a lot of details during the Nintendo Direct.
One of the major highlights of the trailer is the action aspect of the game. Donkey Kong is not holding his power back, and you will see him destroying everything with his raw strength. From punching rocks to digging a hole underground to holding a giant rock and throwing it to destroy anything on his way. A gameplay mechanic certainly fits the character and will transition well into the gameplay.
The destruction physics in a video game is a rare sight, especially in modern titles. The game also features classic levels where the game turns into 2D platforming like in Donkey Kong Country or Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Each area of the game has its unique vibe and vistas with its game mechanics. It is always a pleasure seeing Donkey Kong rampaging in 60 Frames per Second.
The details for the game are limited, we might get our hands on more information after Nintendo launches solid gameplay footage. One thing to note, it is coming exclusively to Switch 2, but as we learned, Nintendo’s Virtual Game Card feature can allow you to play the game on Switch 1 only if you own Switch 2. As the game is set to release on 17 July 2025, we can see Nintendo releasing many more gameplay footage showcasing the game mechanics. So far, the trailer has done an amazing job bringing the hype to the Donkey Kong fanbase.
