As you keep growing your village in Foundation, you will find more people settling in. The more desirable your settlement is, the more elite villagers will make themselves at home. Once you get a larger influx of commoners and higher-ranking villagers, they will each start having different needs. One of them is the purchase of Clothes, and you need to set up a series of workstations and stalls before you can start the production of cloth. In this guide we will detail how to set up cloth production in Foundation.
How To Get Cloth In Foundation

Once you reach level 10 Prosperity, you can start unlocking the Clothing research under the Common Path of the Progression tab. Unlocking Clothing will unlock three main structures, which broadly include the following:
- Sheep Farm – Requires 10x Wood, 10x Stone, 4x Tools, and 50 Coins.
- Weaver’s Hut – Requires 10x Stone, 10x Planks, 5x Tools, and 100 Coins.
- Tailor’s Workshop – Requires 5x Polished Stone, 5x Planks, 2x Tools, and 50 Coins.
It will take 50 Gold to unlock this research, after which you can start a sheep farm to gather wool. To place a Sheep Farm, you must find a designated area where you can place a farm or two. Next, you need to assign a grazing ground for your sheep so they can free-roam around the pastures. Use the Paint Crop Field tool to mark an area where you would like to set your sheep free.
After that, all that is left is to assign workers to the sheep farm, and they will gather wool from the sheep and store it in the farmhouse. Your next step would be to build a Weaver’s Hut and assign workers there too, which is where they will convert Wool to Cloth. It will take 3 Wool to make 1 Cloth, and once you have Cloth, you can make clothes.
How To Use Cloth In Foundation

Your final output for cloth is to make Common Clothes. First, you need a Warehouse with a segment for cloth added to it. Then, assign some Transporters to pick up Cloth from the Weavers and store them there. Next, set up a Tailor’s Shop in your village, then all your collected cloth will be taken up by them to convert into clothes. It is best to have the Warehouse, Tailor’s Store, Weaver’s Hut, and Sheep Farms all within the same vicinity to make it easier for transportation.
Once you have common clothes, you can sell them at the marketplace or give them to Traders. You just need to set up a designated stall the same way you would for bread, cheese, or other items for sale. Eventually, with enough demand and supply, you can turn in a neat profit through making clothes for the villagers.
Foundation has tons of additional features that can keep you busy for hours. We have guides covering some of the more important topics like Mining and Trade Routes that you can check out.
