Cult of the Lamb isn’t just any other roguelike game floating around the industry. It also doubles as a management simulation where you’ll need to gather followers and make sure they’re happy and taken care of as they worship the god of your cult, giving you access to new powers and abilities. You’ll deliver sermons, pass doctrines, and even, at times, perform rituals with your followers in this quirky game.
In this guide, we’ll dissect how the sacrifice system works in Cult of the Lamb and help you perform it. Let’s get started.
How To Sacrifice Followers In Cult Of The Lamb
In Cult of the Lamb, you can Sacrifice your followers by using the Sacrifice of the Flesh Ritual in your Temple. But that’s easier said than done.
The first thing you need to do is unlock the Temple. Thankfully, you don’t need to do anything special for it. The building should unlock once you get your second Follower. The Temple is the first Faith building that you’ll get in the game. It requires Divine Inspiration to unlock, which you’ll get from your Followers worshipping at the Altar.
After unlocking and building the Temple, you’ll be asked to return to Darkwood for more Crusades. To unlock this feature, you’ll need to defeat the second mini-boss that comes up. After that, a short cutscene will play with the One Who Waits, and then you’ll unlock the new ability called Sacrifice of the Flesh.
Once you return to the Enclave, go to the Temple altar, and you’ll see a new option under Rituals called Sacrifice of the Flesh. You’ll need 75 Bones to complete this ritual, but it shouldn’t be too difficult to get by doing Crusades.
When you’ve got enough Bones, return to the altar and choose this ritual. You’ll also need to choose a Follower to sacrifice. You need to sacrifice a Follower with higher Faith for the best rewards.
What Does Sacrifice Do In Cult Of The Lamb
Sacrificing a follower through ritual rewards players with a good amount of experience. You can use this experience gained to unlock new abilities through your Red Crown skill tree to boost things like your health, Fervor, ability cooldowns, and more. However, this has a cooldown period for several days, so keep that in mind.
However, there’s also a downside to this. When you perform a Sacrifice of the Flesh ritual, you’ll get -10 Faith as a penalty. So you can’t just go around sacrificing everyone you save to boost your experience points. You’ll need to find the right balance and make sure you’re already in a good position with your Followers. This, however can be covered up through the Belief in Sacrifice perk from the Afterlife section; which gives you +20 Faith every time you sacrifice a Follower.
Later down the line, you’ll gain the ability to resurrect your dead Followers through the Ritual of Resurrection. However, it’s important to note that Followers sacrificed through the Sacrifice of the Flesh can’t be resurrected using this ritual. The Follower is gone for good.
