Side quests do take through different locations in the game, some of them will be familiar while most of them will be a tiny bit complicated to go through. In the Shattered Space DLC, after arriving at the Orphanage, you will slowly find out how difficult it is going to get. Here is the guide to finding the Orphanage keycard and the Phantom in the Fallen Footsteps quest.
The destination has us following the route southeast of Dazra City, here we will have to investigate the orphanage. We can see the orphanage located on the top of the cliff, with no way in. Here go through the giant electric orbs to reach the entrance of the Orphanage.
How To Open The Door In Fallen Footsteps Quest
Here we have to figure out a way to open the door to our right not with a key but by solving a riddle.
You will soon hear the humming of a young woman at a distance. Take the Orphanage: Lesson data slate next to the altar, north of the room. Then the objective marker will point to the right side of the room. Take the door on the right, but it’s not as easy as it looks, you will be asked to find a key to open the door.
The Solution for the Puzzle
Right at the end of the Orphanage: Lesson data slate it reads:
“In any case, lunch is over. Everyone take their bowls to the kitchen and clear the table.“
To open the door to the right, we will need to clear the table, don’t worry you don’t have to roleplay as a janitor and shove every item into your inventory, you just need to move a cup or a tray or a pitcher to do the trick. Once you take one of the items, the door on the right will open.
With that first puzzle solved, now let’s go to the second one.
Finding The Orphanage Keycard
Again, we have to read a data slate to pinpoint the location of the keycard.
Here you will find the Orphanage: Chores data slate left of the room next to the whiteboard. Compared to the data slate we found in the last room, this one seems to be different. Opening it will only play static that doesn’t give us any information to move forward. Here right across from the place where we found the data slate, we will find the Data Slate Pad, and the marker will point at the item.
Here put the data slate Orphanage: Chores in the Data Slate Pad to get the clue to the door.
The Solution for the Puzzle
The solution is written in the fourth entry in the Orphanage: Chores data slate, where it reads:
“But I know where she keeps the keycard. It’s on the top shelf, in the corner, See where I put the ladder?”
Go to the right of the Data Slate Pad, here you will find the Orphanage keycard in a Jam Jar on the top shelf. After you grab the keycard, open the door left of the shelf.
Finding The Phantom In Fallen Footsteps Quest
You will have to solve the puzzle to find the phantom, there is also a secret way to end the quest but it requires the item from the Lost and Found quest.
Now head to the first room (The Main Entrance) where we found the Orphanage: Lesson data slate. Here now we can unlock the door on the left with Orphanage Keycard.
After opening the door, take the stairs to go upstairs. Here in the room, we will also deal with locked doors.
To spot the Phantom, we will first need to open a Storage Box with a Storage Box Keycard and then ring the bell to open the locked door.
Find the Storage Box Keycard
First head to the bathroom on your right and you will see the knob on the door (third stall) is moving more than the rest of them.
You will also spot some flying sparks right in front of the third stall. So open the stall door to grab the Storage Box Keycard. Now we have to find the Storage Box.
Find the Storage Box
Get out of the bathroom, and look at the wall on the left side, you will find many toys at the bottom, and on the left, you will find a Storage Box. next to a toy. Open the storage box with the Keycard to access Orphanage: Bell.
Find the Bell to Open the Locked Door
Now, open the door on the left of the room right across from the locked door. Here on your right, you will find many empty beds with tiny tables with stuff in them.
Look for the bed with the Child’s Rainbow Drawing on the wall, on the table left of the bed, you will find a Bell in the middle. Ring the bell to open the locked door.
Go through the door, take the stairs, and that’s it the phantom will be waiting for your arrival. Either talk to the Vortex Phantom or Kill it to finish the quest. If you talk to the Vortex normally, your dialogue will go unheard, then the Vortex will turn hostile and start attacking you.
Secret Ending To Fallen Footsteps Quest
There is a way to get the quest done without resorting to violence, but it requires carrying an item from the previous quest Lost and Found. If you didn’t throw the item, The Music Box, then it could be very useful to get the quest done easily and emotionally.
Note: Make sure to play the music box before walking up to the phantom.
Open up your inventory > Misc, here play the music box (from the Lost and Found Quest) to subdue the Phantom. Then choose the dialogue:
- You’re trapped between realities > I found the music box at your grandfather’s.
After the mission is finished, return to Vassilis Voria to receive the reward, 1000 credits.
