If you were a fan of the first Dragon Quest 3 game, then you would probably get a nostalgic hit with the recent remake. While most of the storyline seems the same, you might find a few stark differences in some aspects. There are new quests from familiar faces and new areas to unlock – with keys. Getting these keys is necessary to progress in the main story. In this guide, we have covered how to collect all keys in Dragon Quest 3 Remake.
All Key Locations In Dragon Quest 3 Remake
There are three keys to find in Dragon Quest 3 Remake:
- the Thief’s Key in Dreamer’s Tower,
- the Magic Key in the Pyramid, and
- the Ultimate Key in Shallows Shrine.
You have to progress through the main story quests to get most of them. We have shortened your trip and compiled where you can collect these keys within the game.
Thief’s Key Location Dragon Quest 3 Remake
The Thief’s Key is located deep within Dreamer’s Tower. Make your way to the end of the tower and talk to the Old Man to get the key. To get to Dreamer’s Tower, talk to a boy inside one of the buildings in the northern section of Reeve. The building is right next to a pond, you can’t miss it. The boy will give you info about Dreamer’s Tower, which will update your quest log.
Head south to find the tunnel in an area called Shrine of the Plains. Pick up a mini-medal here while you are at it. The tunnel will lead you to the Dreamer’s Tower, and you can go up the staircases to the very top to reach the Old Man and collect the Thief’s Key.
Magic Key Location Dragon Quest 3 Remake
The Magic Key is located inside the Pyramid. You will get a hint about the city of Ibis while you are in Asham and talking to the NPCs here. From there, head southwest to reach a desert, then head south through the desert to reach an Oasis. You will also find Ibis nearby here, and speaking to the occupants within this city will give you information about the Pyramid’s location. Head north to find it, which can take a while. Once you reach the Pyramid, you should be aware that the place is filled with traps.
Carefully navigate the Pyramid floors to locate the stairs leading up. The Magic Key is found on the third floor, but you need to solve a quick puzzle first. All you need to do is press two buttons on the same floor, one on the bottom right side, and another at the left bottom side. Doing so will unlock the boss chamber, and you need to defeat the boss to get to the chest in the room and obtain the Magic Key.
Ultimate Key Location Dragon Quest 3 Remake
The final key, the Ultimate Key, is located in Shallows Shrine. To get here, first head over to Lanson and talk to the NPCs and a Slime. They will hint towards you getting a Bottomless Pot, which can be found in Edina. But before you embark on your journey, you must collect the Fading Jenny to give you and your party the power of invisibility. Luckily, this item can be purchased in Lanson, from a vendor. After this, you can set sail to the northwestern section of the map where Edina is.
Use the Fading Jenny just before entering Edina to help you pass by the guard. Once inside, head down the staircase on the left to reach a puzzle room. This is another quick and simple puzzle, where all you need to do is push the three boulders to the respective pressure plates on top. Completing the puzzle will unlock the door ahead, where you can collect the Bottomless Pot. Your next destination is Shallows Shrine, and you can get here by heading north from Edina, heading east, then dropping south between the eastern and western continents.
You will eventually reach a sort of dead end filled with rocks. It is over here where you can use the Bottomless Pot to clear the way and reveal the shrine. Enter the shrine and collect the Ultimate Key from the first chest in the room.
And with that, you have collected all three keys available in Dragon Quest 3 Remake, which can help you unlock all locked doors in the game. If you are looking for some trophy guides you can check out how to get the Stately Sword trophy and collect a powerful weapon in Dragon Quest 3 Remake.
