After what feels like ages, you can finally sink your teeth into Black Myth Wukong. The devs took their sweet time with the game, ensuring the combat feels as fluid and dynamic as it looked in all those trailers. Combat is the true highlight in Black Myth Wukong, and as players progress through the story, they’ll learn to rely more and more on the dodge button.

In this guide, we’ll take a closer look at this mechanic and explore how to dodge in Black Myth Wukong. Let’s get started!

Black Myth Wukong Guide To Dodging

Dodging is at the heart of the combat system in Black Myth: Wukong. In the game, you’ll face off against gigantic enemies that can eat a big chunk of your HP in one fell swoop. But since all attacks can be dodged, once you master this skill, you won’t have to worry about dying repeatedly in the game.

You can dodge in Black Myth: Wukong by pressing the X button on the PS5 controller or Spacebar on your keyboard if you’re playing on the PC. Dodging costs stamina, which is dictated by the yellow bar under your Health and Magic. Pressing the dodge button the moment the enemy’s attack lands will execute a perfect dodge.

The secret to mastering dodging is to manage your stamina. If the stamina bar reaches zero, you won’t be able to dodge. However, you can optimize for stamina consumption to make sure you always have enough left in the tank to dodge away from big attacks.

Talents To Complement Dodges In Black Myth Wukong

Thankfully, there are some talents and abilities in Black Myth: Wukong that you can get to improve your dodging efficiency:

    • Simian Agility: Each level put into this talent reduces the stamina cost while dodging.
    • Composure Dodges: Dodging won’t reset the combo counter for Light Attacks.
    • Daft Evasion: Speeds up your dodges

Perfect Dodge, once you master it, will unlock an extra layer of dynamic to your combat prowess in Black Myth: Wukong. To get the perfect Dodge, all you need to do is hit the Dodge button just before the attack lands. When you manage to pull it off, you’ll leave behind an illusion of the Destined One.

But it’s not just for show, either. Pulling off a Perfect Dodge can give you different buffs and effects with different talents.

Talents To Complement Perfect Dodge In Black Myth Wukong

Here are the talents that affect Perfect Dodges in the game:

    • Bold Move: Each point invested in the skill improves the amount of Focus you gain from Perfect Dodges.
    • Vengeful Mirage: The afterimage that you leave behind after a Perfect Dodge explodes, dealing AOE damage.
    • Ephemeral Shadow: Gain Damage Reduction for a while after pulling off a Perfect Dodge
    • Peace from Peril: Perfect Dodging enemy attacks will allow you to retain the Focus when charging your attack. It’s only available in Smash Stance.

Tips & Tricks For Effective Dodging In Black Myth Wukong

Before we take our leave, here are a few essential tips for you to keep in mind to master the art of dodging in Black Myth Wukong:

    • After performing three dodges in quick succession, the next Dodge you try to perform will be slower. You want to switch between attacking and dodging to get around this.
    • Learning the dodge timing for different attacks takes time and patience. Keep practicing and play around with different stances and combos to get better at pulling it off.
    • Most enemies in Black Myth Wukong telegraph their attacks, and if you look closely, you’ll be able to pick up on them. Observe the attacks and learn how to time your dodges reactively.
    • Stamina, as we said already, is the most important aspect of dodging. Make sure you keep an eye on your Stamina bar and get some distance when it runs too low.
    • Prioritize stamina upgrades to make it easier for you to dodge more effectively.

Black Myth Wukong is out now on PC and PlayStation 5. Check out more of our guides on the game, such as How To Parry and How To Craft Medicines & Celestial Medicines.
