It’s time to suit up again Helldivers as there is a new threat looming on Terminid planets; Impalers. These tentacle monstrosities are no joke, they are even bigger and more powerful than the Chargers which already felt like fighting against tanks. So here is everything you need to know on how to defeat Impalers in Helldivers 2.

Just like the Chargers in Helldivers 2, Impalers have a weak spot but at the front instead of its back. Whenever the Impaler uses its tentacles, it leaves the head vulnerable with no armor and it can be easy to take it out with an explosive or even continuous small arms fire to that weak spot.

The tentacles will often block its front since they come out in front of the Impaler, but you can shoot the tentacles to make them go back into the ground which will give you the opening to shoot the exposed head of the Impaler.

Be warned though, the Impaler in Helldivers 2 does have charge and melee attacks not just the tentacle attack so you will have to do your best to dodge these attacks and bait it to do the tentacle attack. Shooting anything but the exposed head will be a waste and you should save your ammunition for the weak spot at the front especially if you are trying to use the Autocannon which can bring it down in around 4 shots.

It helps a lot to have at least two Helldivers fighting the Impaler because a solo Helldiver will get overwhelmed by the Impaler focusing all of its attack on them. The tentacle attack especially can be incredibly difficult to dodge if all of them at trying to attack a single Helldiver. Since you need both movement speed and armor, you should equip a Medium Armor with the Extra Padding perk like the TR-40 Golden Eagle Armor.

How to Find Impalers in Helldivers 2

If you are out to hunt Impalers in Helldivers 2, they can be found on all Terminid planets during missions that are at least Hard (5) difficulty or higher. So far in my experience, I have encountered them in all my Terminid missions on the higher difficulties so they are not that hard to find.

Whenever an Impaler is around or is going to initiate the tentacle attack, your screen will shake and there will be a vibration on the ground which signals the Impaler’s presence. So make sure you are ready to dodge the surprise tentacle attacks in time.
