The Hungering Maw is one of the hardest bosses you’ll face in The King Is Watching. Unlike other bosses, it combines huge AoE attacks, ambushes, and multiple invincibility phases that can quickly tear through even a strong army. But with the right units, planning, and timing, it’s possible to bring it down.
This article will provide a complete guide on how to defeat the Hungering Maw in the King Is Watching.
The King Is Watching: How To Beat the Hungering Maw

The Hungering Maw doesn’t just have a lot of health, it has several bars. Every time you drain one, it becomes invincible, summons enemies, and stays immune to damage for a few seconds afterward. This opens a window where your units take hits but can’t deal any damage in return.
To make things worse, it spawns giant crabs mid-fight. These often land straight in your backline, instantly wiping out fragile ranged units.
If your frontline falls and the Maw reaches your door, it won’t stop to fight your reinforcements, it’ll just keep attacking the base, which makes recovering mid-battle very difficult.
Build a Strong Army

A strong army is your best defense. Set up a tough frontline with cheap melee units like Peasants or Militia. Behind them, place high-damage ranged units such as Archers, Fire Mages, or Crossbowmen. These ranged units perform even better with building upgrades and training boosts.
Try to avoid spreading your army too thin with too many different unit types. Focused builds that rely on one or two synergizing units tend to do better in the long run.
If you unlock higher-tier units early on, like Unicorns, Worm Riders, or Bumblebee Knights, build around them. Worm Riders, for example, deal heavy damage when upgraded with the unburrow explosion, making them perfect for wiping out enemy backlines.

Preparation Is Key

Make sure you have more units than your current deploy limit. Always build more than you can send out—having reserves is crucial. When the frontline is wiped out, you need to be able to replace them immediately. Increase your unit cap through unlocks and advisors whenever possible.
Hospitals are essential. Use them to heal units between waves so you’re not constantly losing resources replacing troops. Double-upgraded hospitals can be the difference between surviving and wiping.
Recruitment buildings should be filled to capacity. By the end of a successful run, some players dedicate multiple rows just for unit production. Arrange them so that frontline units can be rebuilt quickly.
Don’t underestimate passive upgrades from the Hero Monument or building upgrades. Bonuses to damage or HP can snowball across waves and give you an edge during boss fights.

Morale and Spells are important

Morale gives your army a straight damage boost, every point equals 1% more damage. That can quickly add up. Try to pick up Arenas or Wineries whenever they appear, and activate them right before the boss arrives.
Spells should mostly be saved for the boss fight. Use them during the Hungering Maw’s invincibility phases to clear out summoned adds, or to help push through a health bar before it reaches your backline. While spells won’t win the fight alone, they can make key moments much easier.

Tactics During the Boss Fight

Avoid sending out units one at a time. It’s much better to hold them in reserve and deploy them in groups using the release button. Sending them out together gives them a better chance of holding the front.
If you get wiped mid-fight, don’t panic. Let the boss hit your wall for a bit while you regroup. Keep producing units in your barracks until your army is at full strength, then launch everyone at once.
Use the rally point toggle wisely. You can switch between having units go straight into battle or holding them in reserve. This lets you control the timing of your reinforcements and avoid feeding troops into the boss one by one.
