Since the world of Ivalice is teeming with random monster encounters, you might need to work on building up the best team to help take them down. Besides having humans on your side, you could also recruit monsters to fight alongside you too. But you need to learn a particular class skill or recruit the right character to help you out. This guide will explain how to recruit monsters in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles.

Having the Orator class helps recruit monsters and enemies to your team. If you don’t have the Orator class unlocked, then level up your Mystic skill to level 3 first. Using Focus Ability frequently during battle helps level up your skills quickly. Once you have the Orator, this will utilize Speechcraft to recruit enemies to your side. The action skill for this is Entice, which costs 100 JP to use. When used in battle, the targeted foe will work for your team, and you get a chance to recruit them after battle.

The Orator also provides two support abilities, namely Tame and Beast Tongue. Using Tame will turn a critically wounded enemy into an ally, while Beast Tongue helps you use Speechcraft even without the Orator skill. The Tame skill costs 450 JP, while Beast Tongue costs 100 JP.

      Best Builds for Monster Recruiting

There are two main builds to focus on if monster taming and recruitment are in your agenda.

      Monster Recruitment Build

Beast Tongue and Speechcraft uses a lot of MAtk stat. If you haven’t unlocked the Black Mage or Summoner early on, then having any MAtk boosting weapon or the Brass Coronet help use these skills.

      • Best Unit: Black Mage / Summoner
      • Best Equipment:
        • Brass Coronet
        • MAtk boosting Rods
      • Best Abilities:
        • Speechcraft
        • Magick Boost
        • Beast Tongue

      Tame Skill Build

Reis automatically comes with the Tame skill in her support abilities, but with Dragonkin class, she can deal extra high damage to use this skill. Geomancy or Iaido works well when compiled with Tame, and Beastmaster is required if you are not using the Orator class.

      • Best Unit: Reis (Dragonkin)
      • Best Equipment:
        • Minerva Bustier
        • Tynar Rouge
      • Best Abilities:
        • Geomancy / Iaido
        • Beastmaster
        • Tame

Tips to Recruit and Use Monsters

      • You need to focus more on increasing your MAtk to boost up the Entice/ Speechcraft skill using related weapons or abilities like Ramza’s Shout.
      • Raising the character’s speed will give them extra turns, helping you deal extra damage to the target.
      • Any creature you try to Entice will become a target of other enemies if they have successfully converted. It is best to wait till all other enemies are down before trying to invite your target.
      • Monsters are to used as buffers for your team, as they do take in a lot of damage and also apply buffs on other enemies.
      • If you want to keep a core party member from taking damage, keeping monsters is a safe way to handle the opponent.
      • Besides using monsters in battle, they can be bred to give eggs that host higher leveled monsters.

Recruiting monsters to your team does have its benefits during early game. But, since they offer static abilities without the option of changing their build, you might be better off with human characters for later in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles.
