Wuchang has many gameplay mechanics, inner workings that could drastically change the direction of the game when they are utilized to perfection. While the mechanics here are not overtly complex but they are a bit hidden from the first-time player, making it a tad bit difficult to navigate through the game as a new player. In this guide, we will address all the Early Mistakes to avoid in Wuchang.
Don’t Forget About the Skyborn Might
If you look at the bottom left of the screen, you will see a stack of feathers, right next to the HP bar. These feathers (Skyborn Might) act as resources to activate various spells. Unlocking Skyborn Might will differ from one weapon to another, which creates a versatile gameplay. Some swords can build up the Skyborn Might after meeting conditions, such as landing the second hit after the first attack, while others can build it up by having you constantly attack the enemy.
Don’t Shy Away from Learning New Moves

Messing around the Skill tree will allow you to learn new combat moves and a variety of ways to spend your Skyborn Might. Always try out new skills against enemies. If the skill doesn’t deal any good damage, fear not; you can always head back to the shrine to Respec everything.
Never Waste Health Flasks
Don’t chug the Health Flask battling smaller or tougher demons. Instead, look for other ways to fill up the health bar; eating a Steamed Bunny Bun or Medical Residue can help you restore health without touching the flask. While you can carry only 5 of them at a time, you can save 999 of them in the storage, making them great for heading to uncharted areas or handling initial stages of boss fights.
Boost DMG/ HP/ STA by Killing the Birds
When you are out exploring, you will spot birds sitting on a rooftop, wall, or bamboo sticks. Aim at the birds and take them out. You will immediately receive an Aurum Feather. This item activates a random buff affecting HP/ Stamina/ or DMG dealing. The effect here lasts for 30 seconds, and you can carry 99 of them at a time. A perfect consumable at the start of a boss fight in the game.
Note: The birds don’t respawn even after praying at a shrine. Some of them will be out of reach in places where you must use a range spell to bring the birds down.

Spells in Wuchang have hidden effects inside. Head on to the details of every spell to learn about the effects and how to perform them in combat. Here, you will basically unlock a new attack for the spell, followed by a new animation with many advantages.
Always Check on the Donation Box
When you are moving on to newer areas, you might miss out on a lot of goodies from the donation box. Head back to the starting area and check the donation box for items. Make sure to head back to his area as often as possible.
Respec and Change Gameplay

If you are having a tougher time against bosses, then you can always Respec the skills to build your character in a whole new, different way to tackle the boss fight. The best thing about resetting the skill tree is that you won’t have to pay any price for it; it’s all free of charge.
Make Use of Madness System
A high-risk and high-reward system in the game. Head over to the Character tab in the menu, and you will see the Inner Demon rating (Madness Number) at the bottom.
Low Madness Meter:
- Upon death, lose less XP.
- Deal normal damage to enemies.
- Enemies will deal normal damage to you.
High Madness Meter:
- Lose all XP upon death.
- The game spawns an Inner Demon that you must defeat to get XP back.
- Deal additional amounts of damage to enemies.
- Enemies will also deal additional damage to you.
- Some skills also get a boost with High Madness Meter.
If your gameplay is entirely relying on offensive play, then you must maintain the Madness meter at a high level to deal extra damage and reap a lot of benefits from the skills.

Other helpful Tips:
- Always be prepared for ambushes; in a souls-like game, there is no such thing as an empty welcoming room.
- Use the Tempering system as they are not part of any consumables.
- Enemies in the game can kill each other, so you can give it some time before going for the final blow.
- While you can parry, most of the time you will spend dodging or Shimmer. A successful dodge gains a stack of Skyborn Might.
- Pick two weapon sets and stick to them; don’t invest in every weapon type, just stick with two and invest in them till the end.
