During certain stages of the game, you will be plagued by crime that will ravage and tear your civilization apart, unless you quickly get a hold on it.
In this guide, we will show you how you can reduce crime in Frostpunk 2 and how to detect crime in the game. The quicker you can nip crime in the bud, the safer your society will become.
Ways To Decrease Crime In Frostpunk 2
The game, thankfully gives a good variety of ways to decrease Crime in Frostpunk 2- you can do that by either increasing goods supply, enacting specific laws that tackle Crime, increasing security, researching ideas that help control crime and even controlling population growth. Let’s have a look at each of these in detail.
Pro-Tip: If you check your Resource Drawer at the top of the screen, you will find a Handcuff icon. Hover your mouse over it to know the crime rate within your city. If you find the crime status as Growing, then you stay alert and implement certain laws or ideas to keep crime at bay.
Increase Goods Supply
Majority of the time, you will notice that crime usually occurs when needs are not met. That mostly includes food and infrastructure, so you have to check your city’s stats and see what you are lacking in. If you have a high population but low supply, then you will face a large influx of crime. Try to meet your citizen’s demands by having a proper food supply, heat, and enough housing.
Increase Security
Implementation of Guard Squads and having Surveillance Watchtowers is the best way of keeping Crime under check. Without the right security measures, you will quickly find your society running rampant. There are a few laws you can implement to ensure the safety of your citizens
- Head into the Rules section and pass the law for Guard Enforcers. After that, enable the Mobilize Watchtower Squads option if you have a Watchtower within a Housing District.
- Another law you can pass is the Steward’s Militia, which is also found under the Rules section. After that, you can find a new option to Enlist to Steward’s Militia in the Special section while selecting a Faction
- You can also mobilize Prison Wardens or Conscript Inmates by selecting a Housing District with prisons set up
- You can own additional Guard Squads as a bonus if your factions engage in Rallies
- Passing the Steward’s Militia law can also increase Guard Squads’ efficacy if you have the Declare Martial Law ability active in the Central district. You can unlock this after passing the Martial Law rule under the Rules section.
Implement Laws
Most of the laws found under Council: Society deal with crimes within your establishment. If you have the Council Hall, it is best to take a look at all the laws that can help eradicate crime, which we will also list below
- Youth: Dutiful Youth. Unlocks within Council: Society after researching Dutiful Youth under Idea Tree: Society. This makes young adults in your City participate in volunteering activities. It has the positive effect of increasing % of Active Workers, and is a really good way to reduce Crime in Frostpunk 2.
- Guard Immunity: Guard Immunity. Unlocks within Council: Society after researching Guard Immunity under Idea Tree: Society.
- Crime Elimination: Sterilization. Unlocks within Council: Society after researching Sterilization under Idea Tree: Society.
- Crime Elimination: Public Executions Unlocks within Council: Society after researching Public Executions under Idea Tree: Society.
- Criminal Reparations: Human Experimentation. Unlocks within Council: Society after researching Human Experimentation under Idea Tree: Society.
- Criminal Reparations: Frostland Deportation. Unlocks within Council: Society after researching Frostland Deportation under Idea Tree: Society.
However, remember to maintain the balance between Trust & Crime – the stricter the rules, the lesser will be the Trust among Citizens.
Research Buildings & Hubs
Watchtowers, prisons, and Surveillance Hubs can keep your citizens contained. For that, you need to research the above buildings under Idea Tree: Society and Idea Tree: Hubs and place them within Housing Districts. Also, implementing the Poverty Eradication: Labor Camp under Idea Tree: City can keep unruly citizens contained. But this is a Radical Idea, hence you need to progress through Merit to implement it as law. You can build Labor Camps within Industrial Districts.
Furthermore, you can utilize the Random Searches ability within Watchtowers when crime rates are still low. This can decrease crime further but at the cost of increased Tension.
Control Population Size
The final nail in the coffin is the number of citizens residing in your society. Later in the game, you can unlock a skill to build Colonies away from your main city. Once you do that, you can send a certain section of your population away to the colony instead, thus reducing your population and impacting the crime rate. You should be careful about this option, as it can negatively impact your workforce as well
