Since Rust is an open-world survival game, and as such, you will be attacked by other players relentlessly for loot. You too have an option to fight back when required, and even head over to other player bases and attack them. But if you are trying to infiltrate a heavily defended base, then you would have had your fair share of encounters with turrets. There is a way to destroy these auto turrets, and this guide will help you out with that in Rust.
Cheapest Methods To Destroy Auto Turrets
Incendiary Rockets are the cheapest weapons that will destroy Auto Turrets. It will cost just 300x Sulphur and 75x Low Grade Fuel alongside other easy-to-get crafting materials to craft 1x Incendiary Rocket. But while trying to attack an auto turret with an Incendiary Rocket, make sure to aim for the top of the turret to effectively deal damage.

The second cheapest method is to shoot at the turret using Incendiary 5.56 Rifle Ammo. This gives you better precision to aim for the top or bottom of the turret and let it burn up. It might take around 200-250 bullets, which costs around 2250x Sulphur, to start a fire. Try to aim for the bottom of the turret to deal direct fire damage and gradually destroy it. Grenades are another excellent cheap weapon to craft, since each one costs only 600x Sulphur to get it. But you need to strategically place it under the turret to make it explode and deal damage.
Easiest Methods To Destroy Auto Turrets
- A Compound Bow with 100x High Velocity Arrows is not just the easiest to craft, but also the easiest to use. Just use full aim and shoot at the turret to deplete its health.
- Planting a Timed Explosive Charge, aka the C4, will instantly destroy the Auto Turret. But it is expensive as well: A C4 costs 2200x Sulfur and 60x Low Grade Fuel alongside other materials to craft.
- If you have managed to get your hands on at least 12x 40mm HE Grenade, then this is enough to destroy an auto turret too. But the 40mm HE Grenade cannot be crafted, and you need to locate it in the overworld, which can get pretty time consuming.

- Regular old Rockets also work, and 4 Rockets are enough to deal with the auto turret. But it is one of the most expensive items to craft, as 1 Rocket will take 5,600x Sulphur and 120x Low Grade Fuel for crafting.
- Melee weapons are generally not recommended, but if you need to use one, then the Salvaged Hammer deals a good amount of damage to the turret.
How To Disable Auto Turrets In Rust
Before you do any of the above, however, your first line of action is to find out the turret’s electric source. Usually, turrets are wired up to an electrical component, so you need to locate and destroy the main electric source before you can destroy a turret. Once you find the component, you can use any weapon to destroy it, rendering the turret inactive.
