Since Avowed is a combat-oriented RPG, you need to perfect your build with the right weapons and armor to enhance the Envoy’s capabilities. The Spellblade build is a combination of a Wizard and Fighter, and with the right attributes and skills, you can make the best of both builds. This guide will give you a clear explanation on how to perfect the Spellblade build in Avowed.
Best Spellblade Build In Avowed

Working on a Spellblade build can be a bit tricky to master, as you need to prioritize your abilities accordingly. You would also need to figure out the type of armor and weapons to use, and how to prioritize your essence so you don’t run out. Below is the best build you can make if you want to play as a Spellblade.
Best Stats To Upgrade First
- Intellect and/or Might
- Resolve
- Dexterity
- Perception
- Constitution
Since working with a Spellblade build, you need to work on balancing out your Intellect and Might to help you increase your max essence and damage output. Keeping those two stats as your priority, you can then move on to Resolve to increase your stamina and Second Wind Efficiency, which are both equally important as you are doing a combination of a melee and wizard build.
Follow that up with Dexterity for increased attack and action speed, then allocate your remaining skill points into Perception.
Best Spellblade Abilities For Early Game

You need to mix and match your abilities from the Fighter, Wizard, and Ranger ability trees. For early gameplay, you should focus on unlocking the following.
- Charge
- Armored Grace
- Minor Missiles
- Grimoire Mastery
- Constant Recovery
- Marksmanship/ Finesse
Starting with these sets of skills will help you through the starting region and defeat all the bosses you encounter. Charge can help you dash forward and smash against enemies, while Armored Grace can decrease the Stamina penalty while having medium and heavy armors equipped. Minor Missiles is a great starting spell to have as a wizard, but you have to focus on unlocking Grimoire Mastery to get new spells.
If you have leftover ability points, then invest in Constant Recovery for healing, Marksmanship for ranged weapons or Finesse for one-handed melee weapons. You can also select Brawn if you wish to use two-handed melee weapons and improve the damage output.
Best Spellblade Abilities For Late Game
You now need to focus more on improving your Grimoire Mastery as well as the many spells allocated against each skill tree level under the Wizard tree. Or you can unlock skills under the Fighter tree if you wish to focus more on the various damage passives and boosts. Also, try to invest some skills into some of the earlier Ranger skills if you haven’t done so before, as these can also increase the damage output of your weapons.
- Piercing Thrusts
- Critical Strike
- Built to Destroy
- Reflect
- Grimoire Master/ Wand Mastery
- All Unlockable Spell Upgrades
By the time you are level 13 and beyond, you should have skills that will increase damage output, improve your spells, and also increase your essence and health regeneration.
Best Weapons

You can use a two-handed approach or go for a main hand and off-hand weapon handling. The best two-handed weapon type for the Spellblade is the Great Sword, and any of the unique Greatswords will work well with this build. But, for the sake of being specific, you can choose The Philosopher’s Riddle for early game and move on to Hel’s Tongue or Horsecutter in later gameplay.
You can then switch it up with your off hand weapon, which can be a sword or a wand. Since you already have a two-handed Great Sword, it is best to balance your other weapon loadout with a wand and a Grimoire. Upgrading your regular wand to Superb quality is enough to get you through the rest of the game, while having the Grimoire of the Spellblade is a great pick, as it lets you cast Spirit Lance and Blackbow spells.
Best Armor
You can make do with medium to heavy armor as a Spellblade, and the best armor to get is the Wayfarer’s Armor. This can give you health regeneration as a passive boost when worn, which is highly beneficial if you haven’t unlocked any healing abilities yet. You can couple this armor with the Shadowdancer’s Boots for added health regen, and go for the Wolf Gloves, Obsidian Order Gauntlets, or Death Knight Gloves to complete the build.
